I’ve had a lot of 914s starting in the early 80s. I haven’t had one for 15 years, but I still followed 914world because you guys do the most amazing projects and have the best community of “car guys.” Hope you’re back soon!

Hopefully they do routine backups. Curious how they got in? Password hack or got into the root OS some how?

One of the admin accounts was compromised (password hacked, possibly through their phone) which allowed the hackers to gain access to the administrative part of the website.

Luckily, they didn't gain access to the server itself.

Yes, we do have backups, but unfortunately due to the nature of the deletions, it's not as easy as rolling back the latest database backup.
I'm still working my way through restoring and i'm hoping we'll be able to recover with minimal losses.

Worst case scenario right now would mean we'll lose the last two months of posts. I really hope that won't be the case.

WOW, w/o outing the Admin is it too early to confirm the hack was via phone? And If not, is it possible to determine if it was an Apple or Android phone that was the culprit?

Thanks for the update Sir Andy!! Sad that someone would do that to a car site.
Thanks again for supporting and maintaining our addiction.

A quick update on the progress (or lack thereof) but let me first say that i really appreciate all the support from everyone.
914world wouldn't be what it is without y'all.

The Good:
- Almost all topics and posts are still intact
- Only 5 user accounts have been impacted, mine included. I was banned!

The Bad:
- Topics and posts were completely scrambled when the main forums were deleted. Unfortunately unscrambling them is a somewhat manual process that will take more time.

The Ugly:
- There is evidence that suggests this might not have been a random attack
