What's up with this heat exchanger flange?

Hi all,

I bought what I thought and was advertised as a set of 914 2.0 heat exchangers on eBay, but when installing (after I took the time to refinish them) they appear to be 1.7/1.8 exchangers. I now see the swooped up end compared to my old set. My mistake in believing the seller.

The weird bit is the flange that attaches to the head. In all the photos I can find of 914 exchangers none look like this. They don't have the leeway in install that the others I see have, since they are holes instead of slots, so they're difficult to offer up to the car.

Anyone know what these actually are? They are not stainless, a magnet stuck.

Trying to figure it out, so I can either use them, or sell them properly.

The sliver are the ones in question, the others are the old 2.0's.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Anyone have a nice set of 2.0's for sale? :-)

They are just painted silver, that flange, don't know. Were the heat exchangers different on cars with catalytic converters?

Looks almost identical to the bend on my flanges on my 1975 1.8... not near the car at the moment, but will try to get a pic.

Just to clarify, the bit I'm most curious about is the flange that attaches to the head. I can't find a photo of a set with this type of flange. I just see that simple U shaped ones.

That flange measures the same distance from the end of the pipe, etc as the 2.0 exchanger, so should use the same stud from the head. The pipes are 2mm smaller I.D. than the 2.0 HE.
