WTB 904 Guage Kit
I'm looking for one of these for my six conversion project. PP doesn't have them anymore.
Anyone?

The only guys that would have that would be North Hollywood speedo or try Los Altos Speedo. The only b!tch with them is that they probably won't just sell you a kit, they'll make you send in the gauge and they will build it for your first born and half a years salary.... but hey, they do awesome work!

Doesn't everyone want a 904 guage! Me included. I actually know someone that has a real 904 guage, used, I think he wants $1500 or something high like that.
Hollywood speedo is the place to get one. They won't sell you a kit but they will sell you a complete guage for $500... I think that is what it is. There is a better alternative, maybe not better but cheaper.... I have a 73 914-6 (conversion of course) I have a 911 combo guage in the left guage slot, 180mph speedo in the right guage slot, a regular 911SC tach in the middle.... So I have no gas guage and I get 16mpg or so. A little while ago I ran out of gas on the freeway about half a mile from the next exit, so I pushed the car about 1/4 mile and almost threw up. 2000 pounds isn't much for a car but it is alot when you are pushing it yourself up a incline. Thank you to the car load of teenage kids that stopped to push it the rest of the way. So I called up Hollywood speedo for some type of gas guage solution. They said they would put a gas guage inside my Tach for $200. The needle would be in the bottom of the tach. Looks very similar to the 911 Turbo tach with a boost guage (boost guage location becomes the gas guage). Works for me. Then I will have all the guages I need. The next option I want from them is the hallogen guage bulb set, it costs $150 but your guages look as bright as a new cars guages. Hope that helped

) Your suggestion sound like a good possibility -- never thought of putting the gas in the tach. I do like the look of the 904, however

You can also get white LED's and wire them up... a buddy of mine did it for his 911 and it looks awesome. As for the your gauge problem you can hange a small console from below the dash with gas and volt... I on the other hand hacked a 911 dash out of an early car and sculpeted it into the 914 along with the steering column, switches and wiring.

Come to think of it Hollywood Speedo wanted $200 for the halogen kit for the 911, I think it would be less for only 3 guages in the 914 but I don't know. So $200 kinda seems a little high for just a light kit. I'm sure with more info I could (and you guys as well) could build out own light kit. I guess I just need small hallogen bulbs with the proper base to fit into the guage socket. Anyone have any ideas? The stock bulbs just are not bright enough.
Hey BigD where do you get white LEDs? That sounds interesting. The 911 dash thing sounds cool but tricky. Its alot of work to cut and fit a 911 dash into a 914. There in an alternative.... someone makes a fiberglass dash the fits right into a 914 and has 5 guages (I think its Mshaw?) Sure you could always put a set of extra guages in a console but I think spending the money on a cool custom guage from Hollwood speedo has more bragging rights. Decisions decisions.

I'm not sure where to get the LEDs, and i know you have to wire up a resistor or some small coverter for the power going in. I'll ask my buddy what he did... but the last time i talked to him about it he was more interested in making a selling kits for a good price than telling everyone how to do it. I know radio shack has LEDs, and you can find them online. As for the dash I personaly like the steel because i can weld on it, not to mention it came from another Porsche. GT racing has carbon fiber ones... that would be the only reason i would have done it otherwise.... besides the dash was free, all i had to do was cut it out, so i couldn't beat that.

While saving for the big buck tri- combo gauge, I mounted a separate VDO gas gauge under the dash. Later, when I removed the stereo to save all that weight - ;>) - I was able to get a dual gauge cluster that went over the hole for the radio.
