WTB: Exhaust for use with Kerry Hunter (DONE)
I've got a Kerry hunter system on my '72 914 going to a straight pipe. I need to use the car for street and it is obivouslly way to loud. Anyone have something quick and easy ready to bolt on?
Perhaps a supertrapp? I need something ASAP if possible. Thanks!

Do you have a pic of the other end? Is it welded to a flange? Thanks

Here is the inlet end...it fits a standard 2.5" collector or header pipe. I think the K Hunter system is this size on the end pipe, not sure though.

Yarin, here's a suggestion, do you have local V8 speed shop?
You can go and buy a pair of collector reducers for a V8 (2 1/2"), (about $30) they may or may not have the same flange bolt pattern, if they do great if not, then cut the flange off the Hunter Collector, and replace it with one off one of the reducers, you will now have a reducer that will bolt up to your collector, next, little bit of 2 1/2" pipe, 2 1/2" inlet outlet muffler, rig a muffler hanger and your exhaust is now muffled. If no local speed shop, PM me and I'll give you a number.

I snapped a pic of the present exhaust setup. The straight pipe has a 2.5" outer diameter so this is perfect. I might have to bend the pipe down a little bit to avoid hitting the bumper. I'll let the muffler shop light it up.

Yarin,
The colletctor in your picture is probably a 2.5" pipe... You should be able to cut the pipe at the weld and slip on the SupperTrapp. Then get a mufflet hanger from the local auto parts store...they make them with a "U" clamp and hangers flat metal piece with holes drilled in it.. Take this and place around the collector and bend the metal bar up and bolt it to the transmission mount as seen in your picture...the 13mm one not the main one...this will support everything on the end of the This will work fine andtheSupperTrapp should just stick out beyond the bumper... Test fit everything before you cut and you will not have any problems. Just watch the very steep driveways is all...normally it will have plenty of clearance. It will work great and have fun at the track.. John

sorry not a great picture but it is of one we did...it atleast shows how it looks out the back and ground clearance...this was with European Headers but the Kerry would just come out on the left side of the car

Thanks guys! I just got the car insured so i can drive it to a shop. I'll post pics when its complete.
Thanks for the tips on the hanger, i wasn't planning on using a hanger since the supertrapp weighs 6lbs, but i guess it would be a good idea.

Yarin,
Definately support the headers around the collector and SuperTrapp..6lbs and the weight of the headers bouncing around is a lot of stress on the exhaust studs....You don't want the only support being at the exhaust outlet on the heads...I have seen too many broken exhaust studs and cracked headers because of just this. Good luck on the project... John

Here is a picture of a supertrapp I fitted to an old European header with a 90 degree elbow at the end. I don't have the header anymore but I still have the near new 24" Stainless Supertrapp that I would sell. It has a 2" inlet.

Interesting design. Don't you want the exhuast heat outside of the car though?
I got a 18" / 2.5" supertrapp off a guy on here, it is all bolted up straight to the flanged straight pipe. I cut about 8" off the pipe, so far so good. I bought an exhaust hanger (bracket design with rubber dampener that slides into the exhaust clamp) and set that up tonight. So far so good! Thanks guys

Here is what I ended up with. Nice solid mount, sounds a bit quieter than a straight pipe.
