A/C relay or HVAC module bad?

Has anyone else run into the following scenario?

When driving, I’ll depress the a/c snowflake switch and the compressor will finally kick in anywhere from 10-30 minutes later and provide cold air. After 3 weeks of experiencing this delay, I had the a/c R134 freon evacuated and it held a vacuum for 30 min so I know the overall system is not leaking. They refilled with the proper oil and freon levels but that same delay time still happens when depressing the a/c switch.

I had the a/c system converted to R134 about 9 years ago with no previous issues.

BUT if I leave the snowflake switch on when starting the engine (both warm or cold starts), the air conditioning compressor starts right away with the cool air.

Has my original 85/2 HVAC module finally worn out or is it more likely a worn out a/c relay?

Thanks!

Probably start with the AC relay first, it's the cheapest.

Is the compressor clutch gap excessive?

My guess is that your system pressure is somewhat low and the engine heat eventually gets it high enough to allow for the compressor to kick in.

Car warms up, pressure rises, a/c works... I've never seen that. Jump the pressure switch with a paper clip, let us know what you find.
