saabs are FWD, all of them i think. i don't know if you would want that, but i guess for a DD that makes sense. They are great looking cars. You seem like a VW person by the look of your signature. How about a VR6? They look good and they have some power. sorta.
What about a used audi, volvo even?

Vw's are bad luck for me...Volvos are a thought,I like the C70, I want something conservative, fun, safe and with a warranty, I know Saabs are FWD, I can live with that..The 944 is for fun, this car will be for comfort, reliability and a touch of class...a young jerk in a responsible mommy and daddy car...thats how I see it...

Saab's are good cars so are Audi's, but not as popular as the VW. I would stay away form Volvo's. Stick with a VW they are good cars somewhat overpriced now, but at least they are German.

S40 slow? We have one and it is plenty fast and refined. 1.9l twin turboed 4cyl. I don't like the transmission but it is a great driver and very handsome at that.

Saabs are very very safe cars. My friend totaled a new saab 9-3 head on to a parked car doing 70, didnt do anything to him. They are pretty damn fast too, the turbo ones anyways. Actually, if im correct, all the new Saabs are turbo. Cool cars!! You can just buy my older Saab too if you really want a saab!

GM owns saab now so its not really german. in fact if you want a car that isnt japanese or american youre basically looking at a vw, porsche or bmw as far as i know. you could always venture into Peugot country, thats not american

Personally, I'd stay away from Saab. Too GM anymore. Also, the mechanics I've talked with say that Saabs have gone downhill significantly since GM bought the company. Too much platform sharing with other GM makes.
I'd go with the Volvo myself, but I've always had a soft spot for Volvos. Plus I'm a Blue Oval guy, so Volvo's current parent company doesn't bother me a bit. I also think that Ford has done a better job of allowing Volvo to maintain its autonomy than GM has done with Saab. The mechanics I've talked with back me up on this saying that Volvo's quality has not declined since the takeover. ZV

GM tok over in 1991. I was working for GM in 93, the big news was that it was a "steal" for GM when they picked it up. SAAB was on it's ass financially, nearly bankrupt with a reputation for poorly manufactured electronic, and major reliability issues.
In fact if you look into consumer reports, SAAB has become incresingly more reliable since the takeover, they are now using GM electronics, rack and pinion, and saftey systems. I guess thats what happens when you get the financial backing of the largest auto manufacturer in the world. On another note, my daily driver is a 1992 Nissan Maxima SE, 3.0L V6, it's a real rocket. Not too great in the styling department, but it has tons of high end options and its extremely fast.
