Well, I wasn't so fortunate, got mine reduced to 93mph in a 65, the judge only told me he'd let the DMV in NC take care of it, except that my licence wouldn't be taken away. However I already have 4 points on my licence here in NC. On top of that, I got another ticket on the way back from court in virginia... I was going around 135 or so, as soon as I saw the cop, I tried to slow down to near the speed limit without drawing too much attention to the fact that I was decelerating at an astonishing rate... He clocked me at 88mph, that's wreckless according to Virginia traffic laws. Even if that get's reduced to 2 points, I would get my licence taken away. So it's only a matter of a couple of months really.

As a result of this, I will go up to Rhode Island for another reason than just seing my sister this time, I'll pick up a drivers licence there, (NC and RI do not cross reference of any kind, which is good in my case) possibly along with a motor bike licence, this is totally legal. On top of that, anything that's related to traffic short of getting arrested, and DWI, I will only pay court costs in NC, no points or anything else.

Running from cops:

I've done it a total of two times, I would not do it if I did not have much to loose, and there was anydoubt in my mind that I could lose him in less than a minute, as well as being %100 that he didn't get my plate #.

Once I was going about 75mph in a 35, passing a much slower going car, on the left side of the road, when I spotted a cop just about to pull out of a side street. Naturally, just as I went by, he turned his lights on, I just downshifted into third, keept it floored until the top of the hill, took the first left, than the next right, and pulled into a driveway (that was much higher than the level of the street), turned off the car, and the lights. The cop went by in about 20 seconds, than I backed out, and went the opposite way, and that was the end of it.

Again would never run unless I was doing something that really didn't look good, or that I had the smallest doubt that I could get away in a matter of minutes.

Ah running from cops, 1.2 you need a 951 even more than you thought you did before...

As for the Speedo, in the later cars it is read off a sensor in the transaxle, but that sensor can only tell you transaxle speed, so if you change tire diameter up or down the speedo reads one thing but you are traveling at a different speed becuase you have changed the overall gear ratio but the speedo doesn't know that.

Pilot, I've just got yet one more ticket...

The cop said he was putting down wreckless, and that he tried to keep up with me for miles...

I didn't even notice him!

He also said he hit 75 trying to keep up with me in a 35... But when I did notice him in my mirror, it was already too late, again unless I had a 951, or a very tight turn coming up...

I'm going to try and get a RI licence, or sell the car, and get a bike, with a licence from RI (and yes, I'm %100 on the latter, it works like this, NC might not let me DRIVE regardless with any licence, and in NC, you need a valid driver's licence to get a bike licence, not so in RI, and an RI motor bike licence is valid in NC!)

So it looks like I'll either sell my car, and drive a golf with only liablity, or sell my car and get a bike. I might even store my car, since I'm bonding with it, and know it in and out, but I do want a 951, and if no tickets I'd have enough money to get one next year too (or maybe a 968) but with all these points (my insurance hasn't increased yet, hopefully I'll be able to go around the insurance, and pick up another licence, and change companies before my next bill comes up).

Oh well... Time will tell what happens, in the mean time, I just joined PCA, and if all the people who told me racing on the track takes most urge to drive hard on the street out, I'll probably be ok in the coming years.

I got a ticket last week ****!(68 in a 55) Hopefully I can keep it off my record. Thank god for fuzz bussters or it would have been real bad.
Anyway I did a 80mph tach test it showed 2800rpm's
My tires are 195x65x15 The guy at the tire store said my speedo sould read right.

Hey, I got my latest ticket, an 88 in a 65 reduced to 74 in a 65!

Hahaha, eat your hearts out, I've got somewhere between 4-8 points on the licence, but I've still got it!

With the 225/60/15 tires I've gotten for the car, speedo reads optimistic by around %5. That means I'll feel good looking at the speedo, around 15 over the limit, and cruize there... OK, who am I kidding, I'll just go 5 faster...

Anyway, regardless of how fast the car goes, I won't be doing any top speed runs for a while, not until the PERFECT opportunity presents itself. Maybe in my next car? A 951 or a 968 perhaps? I hope so.

1.2, what ploy/tactic did you use to get your speed reduced?

1.2gees 06-29-2000 07:09 AM

Well, this time, the judge said, all those who plead guilty, and are willing to get the full charge, give your names to the guys over there...

About 3/4ths of the people present went. Than he asked for the people who'd plead not guilty, and gave them a new court date.

Finally, with about 5 people remaining, he said have you gone to driving school in the last 2 years, I said no, so he gave me the order of completing a certified driving school, (before august 24), and if the certificate would be mailed in by then (oh it will) my charge would only be 74 in a 65, which is not really significant, no insurance increase. Also, court costs of $40, and $5 per every mile over the limit I was going. The final cost came to be about $105, with taxes and all.

I don't think that was too bad, not bad at all, looks like the time to get a radar detector, and slow down where they're illegal though. I'd say I've been lucky so far, and sure will be more carefull from now on.

Just for another data point:

I took my 85.5 951 out tonight, and I drove on the highway at a constant 80mph according to the speedo...I used the digital lap timer in the car to record the time between mile markers...and they consistently ticked off at 45 second intervals, which is exactly what the speedo predicts...

The car has P225/50R16 tires on the rear...
