Short Shifter for Street Only?

Thinking that with a sloppy(ish) shifter...and with engine and tranny out of the car (not to mention having removed what was left of shifter foam insert)...now is the time to replace shifter components.

Am thinking of going the whole distance with the lineup of Only944's shifter components: his short shift kit, shifter linkage, and shifter assembly. From what I can see there would be no redundancy in this, and each would add to the other to enhance my driving/shifting experience.

My question is specific to the short shifter kit. Knowing that I will never track this car, is this kit still something I would appreciate? Or would the improvements I would realize by going with just the new shift linkage and shifter mechanism be enough?

Yeah, I know...kind of subjective - but would like to get some opinions anyway. Thanks!

One note to pass on, if you aren't pulling the transaxle to install this, cut down an 11mm wrench to make the install of the rear linkage threaded mount easier. There's precious little room for a standard length wrench to move. also, put blue thread locker on the threads. You'll love this short shifter package. Kevin did a great job designing this thing. Read the instructions as he included some tricks to make it easier.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

All 3 here, very tight shifter now.

Though I'm so used to the looong throw that i have to double check I'm fully in reverse sometimes, lol

Last winter I pulled the tranny to replace the fuel lines and reinstalled it. The shift action was instantly sloppy . I then put in just the short shifter and it is 100% better. Much easier to do on the tranny when out of the car. Check out Johns post on cleaning the tranny too

My son just today installed that on his 951 and the improvement was insane. I really like it a lot. And that was just with the transaxle side installed; he has yet to replace the shift lever.

After he left, I went to move my car back into the garage and the difference was enormous - it seemed like the throw on my stock setup was excessively long.

I think it took him about 2 1/2 hours to install. I may have to get one for my 951.

If the trans is out, now is definitely the time to do it! Considering ordering one and installing it as well!

I let mine sit on the workbench for about 2 years. Figured I'd install it and there wouldn't be much of an improvement. I was wrong! Definitely worth it!!
