Radio dead
A couple months ago I went to start my 944 and there was a loud pop and now the radio is dead. I had just disconnected a battery charger but that certainly isn't the first time I've charged the battery. I can't find any blown fuses so apparently something else has died. It's the stock 8 track Blaupunkt radio. I'm not sure where to look.

What year Porsche? I don't recall any 944 with an 8 track installed. Is the model of blaupunkt shown on the radio? You my have to remove the radio to check for any fuses on the radio itself.

Duh! Yes cassette, not 8 track. I was in a rush and didn't stop to think. No model number that I see, here is a picture.

Yeah, unfortunately those die. I'm not aware of anybody doing repairs on those right now...
Good luck...

Once you have the radio out I would look and see if it is easy to pull the cover off. If it is you may as well, your problem may be obvious such as a blown internal fuse, a broken wire, or a fried capacitor or such. You may not need a specialty shop.
When you say it is dead do you mean the clock is not lit, the cassette motor doesn't run, no noise what so ever out of it?
