Talking Hi all, I'm a newbie. UPDATED with Pics.

After reading here for about a week, I decided to register.

Tomorrow evening I will be picking up my 1st Porsche. '83 Black 944 with 90k miles. I'm actually buying it to be my new daily driver, as the Conquest operating costs can get pretty high and it's more or less just becoming a 'performance toy'.

I've always wanted a 951, but considering I already own turbo toy, I didn't want to get into another car I'd be eager to start dumping money(performance wise) into. So I chose to seek out a good economical N/A model.

I'll post some pictures when I get her home. And will most likely frequent this board, as I'm sure it'll come down with some ailments, knock on wood

If you'd like to see the Conquest, click here. And don't criticise me on my 1/4 mile times, that was with massive 1st and 2nd gear wheelspin I can't seem to NOT dump the clutch at the lights....

Welcome Blue,

I bought my white 83 last december as a quick turn-around and sell. After driving it I just couldn't do it. The older models come with more than a few things to tweek out and rubber to replace but it is all fun. The members on this board are unbelievably helpful.

Good luck with your purchase...

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

When you do the timing belts you can grab the input of the water pump and wiggle and spin it. Should tell you real quick that something is wrong.

Not the case with the timing belts unless you find belt teeth on top of the airfilter. Or they break then you become a member of the Order Of The Bent Valve.

Welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy you're new ride...

My friend had a Starion. It was a nice car, but yours looks great!

I always liked the Starion in metallic blue, or black but the blue is my favorite. Is yours a factory color??

Welcome to the board, and if the previous owner has no documentation on the T-belt, then REPLACE it!

Yep, it's factory original paint. I'm about to repaint it, as I have some hail dents, a couple of door dingys, and some serious gravel pitting on the nose. Not to mention my current/recent busted front air dam, from a little road kill creation.

But hopefully in the next couple of month's she'll look even better than in those pictures, so long as the 944 doesn't start demanding too much money in the beginning

It's black, it's just color washed from the camera flash and the sunlight. It's got the partial cloth seats with the 'PORSCHE' script. But everything else is jet black.

Dunno, my camera seems to freak out sometimes.....
