The Mustang, Dodge and Chevy muscle cars can thrash the rear end with the stickiest of slicks. Bolt on a set of slicks to our cars and try a high rpm launch, it's trailer time. That said...

With minor bolt-on mods, My 86 turbo turned a 13.57 @ 108mph on the GtechPro. I know I need to improve the launch. Similar trap speeds are usually into the mid 12s. I only made one run, so there's room for improvement. Our turbos either light up the tires or bog down at the launch or break something. HP is somewhere between 290 and 320 at the flywheel. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif

PS I'm serious about the 11.2, hahahaha (evil laughter)

Thanks for the support Keith. I am really serious about this and once you guys get to know me you will realize I am not here to start anything. I drive a Z28 now. My prior cars are as follows
2-1955 Chevrolet Belair 2 door posts
2-'74 Novas
'86 Silverado
'88 Mustang GT

I am not biased to american cars at all. That is just what I have been able to afford and what I have been able to get my hands on.
Back to the rear end mentioned above. What size rears do these cars run? I know the Z28 has a cheezy little 7.5" At least my mustang had an 8.8"
And how well do bigger guys fit in these cars? I am 6'5" 250lbs. Thanks for the advice fellas.
And if you guys really must know why I want a Porsche it is because I have always said "I'm not having a kid, I'm having a Porsche."

You'll be please with a 951 in straight line acceleration. Trust me. You should fit fine in them too. I'm 6'3 or 6'4 and 200lbs and I fit fine in my 944. I've never had a problem. You just have to find out the right way to enter it. That goes for short people too as with any car.

Agreed, test drive one and you will know why there is such a following for these cars. Its not often that a muscle car driver considers an import (in my experience) and I think it pretty commendable that you are. Before I bought my 951 I went through the same calculations as you. I thought to myself...what can I buy that will run 12s reliably? Besides the 951, the Supra was about all that made sense. The 951 was less than 1/3 what a Supra costs so it was an easy decision.

I don't think Brad is saying that he wants to drag the car everyday. What i think he is asking is a "classification" question. When you're into fast cars, you break them down into classes. For instance, a Viper would be a "12 second car" and a Vette would be a "13 second car". A 911 turbo (new) would be like the Viper ... a "12 second car". These labels don't mean that you are going to drag any which car. They are a quick and easy way of standardizing hp/weight.

If you want to do high 12s or low 13s get a 3/4 ton Dodge truck with a Diesel engine.

As for getting a 951 to do that, I wouldn't have a clue.

The post above about classifications is very much what I am about. I love supras also. I like fast cars. It doesn't matter whose name is on them or if it has 8 cylinders. He mentioned exactly what I want. A 12 sec daily driver. That doesn't mean I will drag race it. I just want something in that class. Thanks for the analogy wolfrpi.

last month on speedvision they ran a program about a racing version of the supra. guess what engine it had? 6? 8? 12? no, it had a twin-turbo 4! lightweight yet brutally strong, it pumped out 500 hp/550 tq. showed it running on some german track, could have been hockenheim. very nice car.
