Red face 924s driving problems, HELP!

My daily driver 1987 924s had a terrible problem today. When I put it in drive (it's an auto, I know....) it makes a bad chatter and slowly increases speed. It's ok past 40 or 50mph but from 0-30+ it is almost undriveable. The only reason I drove it was to pick up another car to get me to work. I'm assuming it's the rear. Is this a sign of low fluid or something worse?

I can't work on it until after work so I would like to have a good direction since there's only a few hours of light left.

In the place of the clutch there is a large rubber center disc. You have torn through the rubber on this disc and the clatter you hear is the safety ears beating against each other.

Just ask Todwic about torn rubber disc's!

I could hear him a 1/4 mile away.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

What is the cost of this disc and what is it called? Is it as large or a procedure on the 924s automatic to change something in the clutch area as it is in the 944??

Ahh,, the old Flex Damper .. It's a rubber / metal plate located in the bellhousing. Check the sight hole just behind the starter- you will have a small collection of rubber dust if it's going. It wil eventually start to disintegrate and you will start to smell burning rubber, maybe a litle smoke from under the hood.

Sit down. The part is about 600-750 bucks and a PITA to do- I had mine replaced a year ago and IIRC it was about 10 hours of labor.
