Post Argument

I got involved in this argument at another board. It all started with a discussion of BAD BOYS... These guys think that a Shelby Cobra from 1967 is faster than a 911 Turbo, and that the ONLY car of today that is faster is a Dodge Viper. Oh yeah, they also think that the Cobra handles and brakes better than a new 911 Turbo. How about a little backup?

Shaun: give it time: hopefully the OT forum will catch on. "Build a field: they will come...."
It already has more replies than the Boxster Heaven forum

HAHAHAHAHA whats all that crap about a dodge viper? Its not even that fast, its fast and its not bad for the bucks but its no super car, 4.5 seconds(not including the new one). Phhhhh....only car that can be compared to it today....whatever, what about Meclaren F1 3.4, what about the 959 3.8, i could keep going but its pointless on this boarded and i dont have a login on the other board so cant post this there.

Good to see you over here CJfusco. I remember you from a few posts over at the [H], and complimenting on my car...thanks . I had a bunch of these fools (maybe you were included?) follow me over to the [H]ard forums before when they were discussing the old porsche thread, where the 911 guys were being very snotty over there. I forgot the outcome, but we made a good showing over there. Anyways, gotta go to lunch, so see ya.

OK, here is the definative. One of the major car magazines tested all the super sports cars a while back (mid 70's-ish) and the Shelby Cobra was the fastest car from 0 to 100 back to 0. All cars started from a stopped postion, drag raced to 100 mph, then nailed the brakes back to 0. The Shelby was the fastest.

Tha same magazine re-did the test, sometime around the early 90's, with 90's era sports cars, ZR1 vette's and the like, and the Shelby Cobra was still the fastest production car on this planet.
PERIOD. Sorry Porschies......

Cool

I think a bit of clarification is in order here. From what Tex' just said, I'm pretty sure he is talking about an AC Cobra with a Ford 427 in it. This is not to be confused with Carrolls Mustangs. The AC was rated "Gawddammed Fast" by everyone on the planet back in its day. That huge 427 in a body about the size and weight of an MG-B gives me a woody just thinking about it. I believe the record is 0 to 100 & back to zero in 12.9 seconds. Can anyone imagine that kinda horse power from a normally aspirated carburated engine today? Think about the possibilities todays technology would do to that combination of body and engine. Fuel injection, Turbo....

Cool

Yep, I am talking about the AC Cobra, which in my Mustang circles we always referred it it as a Shelby Cobra as oppossed to a Shelby Mustang.

But, you're right clarification was needed, It could have been confusing quickly - Lest, someone actually think a Mustang is fast Oh the horor! j/k
