I pulled off the shift knob but it looks like platic is around the metal beneath it. so do you cut it of to replace it with say a momo or aftermarket knob.

That is the knob all you have done is to remove the leather around it. the base of the knob there is a spring clip that holds it onto the shift lever the lever is square so you cannont use an aftermarket shift lever unless you cut it off and weld in a steel rod.

there are adapters that come w/ the after market shift knob that you can jam over the square shifter, it is a better idea to get a round metal tube and put it over the shifter then put the shift knob on that because the adapters are plasic and won't last long on the square end.

I just made a short shifter...
Or more accurately I just cut both the shifter knob, and the lever, matched them again, and now the throw is reduced by over 30%. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... My page over1g@hotmail.com Porsche owners Gallery.../My 944 |
