A bad day for a 951 and its owner

A bad day in the life of a 951...(and owner)

7:00am- Awakened by cell phone going off..."damnit I wanted to sleep till 9:30!" let it ring...

10:30am- Walking out the door..."Crap I am LATE! I was supposed to leave for San diego at 10:00" I'll just drive faster

11:20am- Being pulled over by Motorcycle cop..."Whats that bike doing by my OMG IT'S A COP!" Got a ticket for expired registration. Throw it in the pile with the rest of em.....literally.."I don't have time to deal with this right now...I am REALLY late"

11:40am- Get to destination only 10 minutes late, but without enough time to get car washed for free at gas station..."DAMNIT!"

2:00pm- Leave to go BACK up to Orange County..."Car drives funny....hmmm. That wheel bearing hum sure has turned into a roar over the last few weeks"

3:00pm- Back to Orange County in time to pick up friend..."I can't believe I have to drive him ALL the way up to Santa Monica to get his car___FOR THE 2ND DAY IN A ROW"

4:21pm- Arrive at car shop..."What do you mean his car isn't ready yet. Oh yea we are gunna wait an hour till its fixed...I ain't doing that drive again. Hey....maybe these people could look at the crack in my rim...."

6:00pm- Time to leave after checking out crack..."I gotta use the bathroom...OH CRAP....I locked the keys in my car....while its RUNNING! These mechanics are trying to leave for the day and my car is stuck in their lot RUNNING." AAA time. Luckly these guys are real cool and will wait with us.

7:00pm- "What do you mean you can't unlock it....you're TRIPLE A!!! FRIGGIN A...Lets just bust the left quarter-window since I have a spare"

8:00pm- Arriving Home..."Damn this car sounds like its about to fall apart. Wheel bearing roar,, cracked rim clunking(slight mind you), engine ticking, oil pressure dropping .5 bar at least between throttle and coast(!!!?!?!?!?!?WTF?!?!?), Window broken, phatty dent due to dumb neighbor, something messed up in suspension. I'll look at her tommarow when I am not so mad."

9:00pm- Nyasin time..."Oh My GAWD this sucks..." (those of you who know what I am talking about know what I am talking about.

At any rate My baby needs alot of work and I am stressing...and today was D-day

How did you lock your keys in the car while it was running?

Welcome to daily driver 944 ownership, my friend. I'm having a multitude of problems that are really starting to stack up myself. But relax, take a deep breath, and remember that if it was easy to maintain & keep up with these cars mechanically, the entire Z3/new VW bug crowd and women with comfortable shoes would be driving them.

Look at it as sort of a "weeding out" process

Yeah! How?

Also you don't have to break the quarter window's; just pop one out with a screw driver.

All in all I do understand having to exist at a minimum but some of the stuff you are avoiding is going to cause you some serious problems.

only thing I can think of to explain things is that you forgot to mention you have a broken drivers side door handle on top of everything else...?

break vs. pry on the window glass, I'd much rather replace the cheap glass, than to slip and put a 12" scratch in the paint. I've never tried to remove the glass from the outside though...then again, I've never locked my keys in one of my p-cars either though! I love German cars for that. BTW, how did you get around those clever German engineers?

did you forget to try the clever access through the rear license plate lights?

hmmm i thought 944s' driver's doors locked from the outside, making it damn near impossible to lock your keys in the car with the car running

My owners manual says you can't lock the door and close it (it will pop up unlocked). But I have tested this, and it doesn't work. Maybe my locks were replaced?

Well it could of been worse....... you could of been stuck in a bad part of town.... or at -39 like it is here......

It can always be worse........once you realize that, the little things or major things dont matter.

Yea...It definately could have been worse. Its a good thing I fixed the slight coolant leak last weekend or it woulda been much worse. I knew there was an easy way to remove the window...but forgot how exactly, and I have both quarterwindows and rubber at home. My car you can very easily lock the door and shut it. Maybe somethin in there is broked. Yea...the wheel bearing is being fixed soon. The cracked rim is hard because the company that makes em is pissed at the US dealers and is not shipping them here right now!?! (anyone live in japan? Damn replicas) The suspension isn't anything TOO major...the little sway bar links between the aftermarket swaybars and the control arms have rubber bushings in em which are shot=crappy swaybar action all around. The one problem that is really scaring me is the Oil pressure...in fact..i am gunna post a new topic about that to try and get help.

About your rim... where are you? There's a place in Elkridge, MD that has fixed some old BBS rims for me and they did a good job, cost about $300 for two badly curb surfed rims, they managed to duplicate the factory machined finish well. Also have heard good things about a place in Bath, PA.

good luck

Yeah, mine you can't even push the button down with the door open. Took me about 2 mins to figuire out. lol.

Hmm, clever access through rear license plate lights? I am interested. Perhaps one day I will f*** up and start my car from the passenger side and lock the keys in or something.

Solution: have another car available to use. Sometimes taking time away from the 944 will make you appreciate it.

Well, I have a rear quarter window if you need one.

Time to seriously look at oil pressure before anything else - all other issues can be fixed at leasure, Oil Pressure issues are ones that stay around and call all sorts of damage.

How about having the hatch catches decide to let loose ont the 10 freeway, in rush hour. Passers by wonder why your hatch is at a 90 degree status (maybe some of that speed sensitive downforce action).
