Well today I had a wonderous experiance and lost 20$ all within 30 min. Friend at work has sworn up and down for the last year his father had a 928S that would kill my S4 without breaking a sweat. I have taken him to lunch in the S4 several times and snatched some gears just to show off. Everytime he says "my dads is ALOT faster".
Well, today he finally drives it to work. I look it over and saw nothing special. At lunch for a change he took me for a ride. Just pulling out of the parking deck I noted it sounded noticably different. Anyway he guns it and I am doing that "sweet jesus mother F*#ing christ" routiene in the passenger seat. yada yada..... Long enoufgh story short come to find the damn thing was supercharged. ? WHO make a supercharger for a 928??? I have never seen any bolt on kits and yes I have looked. I know this was not a factory option was it? After riding in this monster all I have to ask is why is there no 928 turbos? Would it had been far faster than the 911? Im still scratching my head on this... |

I think you'd have the same problems with supercharging or turbocharging a 928 as you would a 944 since the 944's is basically half of the 928's engine. My guess is you would need to have better pistons, maybe crank and most likely exhaust valves; or you'll hear stories like those we see on hear all the time. I'm not sure if the same holds true for the 32 valves and some of the earlier Euro versions, they might be built to handle the extra heat and stress.

I saw one in the local P-car garage - a late model S4 that I could have sworn was turbo - one one noticable difference about it - it was a Euro 928 - VIN # WPOZZ..... - Also, had dual distributors

Superchargers make an engine less responsive. Notice how no real sports car, supports a supercharger. The only cars that come close to sports cars with superchargers is certain Austin Martins, and Certain benzes. At second thought though, both cars are aimed towards the 'fast cruizing' crowd, and not the 'sports car' crowd.
Twin-turbo'ing a 928 wouldn't make too much sense, as much of a sports car as the 928 is, Porsche probably didn't think a "GT" car with turbo lag was a good idea. Besides, the 28 already had good power/weight ratio for it's day, so why bother? Things would get really crowded in that engine bay. Porsche could've made (and did at times) models faster than the 911, but never too obviously, never by too much. I don't think the 928 was never 'unleashed', but I'm sure there was more potential in that car. That's not to say that it wasn't great as Porsche sold it, ditto for the 944, and the 944 turbo. Just my opinion, I could be wrong. -Dave Miller (or is it?) Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... My page over1g@hotmail.com Porsche owners Gallery.../My 944 |

there WAS a 928 turbo!!!... ENGINE.
it was used in offshore racing boats. Porsche twin-turbocharged a 928 engine and converted it to copper "marine" gaskets. i have a pic somewhere. obin |

Cool! I saw a boat for sale one time that had one of these in it. I was thinking who the hell would put such a high maintenance engine in thier boat. I've got a Scarab with a new Mercrusier/Chevy and the thing is only supposed to last 600hrs before rebuild. Probably sooner the way I drive it!
