Radiator Fan Not Working

OK... THE FAN DOES NOT COME ON AT ALL!
i CHANGED OUT THE RELAY FOR THE SPARE AND STILL ng
THE SWITCH WAS NEW LAST YEAR ABOUT MAY!
IF i JUMPER THE SWITCH...PULL THE WIRES OFF OF IT AND CONNNECT THEM THE FAN WILL RUN WITH THE INGITION SWITCH OFF ONLY?! WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED ON THE FAN GOES OFF
i AM THINKING THAT i NEED A NEW SWITCH?

Um, if you bypassed the switch, and it still didn't work, then it probably isn't the switch.

Something like this happened to me once, I had a weak ground going to the switch. The fans would only come on when the engine was off. The ground couldn't feed the load of the fans.

Look on the right side forward of the fender well. There is a huge clump of ground wires attached by a single bolt to the body next to the AC dryer. Clean and check all the wire connectors there.

It might help.

Might check the grounds on your keyboard too. Seems to be stuck in HIGH gear.

I have an aquantiance who does that and it is really annoying your right Socal! it was the CAPS LOCK relay!
anyway heres what I have...key on and a/c on drivers side fan runs at low speed only hot or cold.
temp gauge at 3/4+ and a/c off with fan switch jumpered drivers fan will run at high speed only with the key off no fan at all with the key on?

the switch jumpered should allow everything else to do it's thing? I am thinking the fan resistor...but I do not know where that is located ? anybody know?
I have swapped relays and get the same results
shouldnt the a/c on spin the passenger fan in low speed?

heres where I am at
with the temp switch jumpered...
with the key off driver's side fan runs at high speed only
with the key on driver's fan does not run at all
with the key on and a/c on the drivers side fan will run at low speed

has anybody ever changed a cooling fan resistor?
could also be a broken wire?

I think I will get a SPAL fan and create my own cooling fan system with a manual switch so I can control engine cooling in an emergency from the cockpit... and for very hot summer days with the a/c on!
mounted on the front it will provide extra cooling for my auto trans and a/c!
any flames?

I have a possible solution to your problem.

I'm not sure what the electrical system looks like in a 924, but if it's like the early 944's it's likley that you have put the wrong relay in the socket. The factory documentation was wrong on early 944's, they call out the wrong part number for the fan relay. The factory documentation has the part numbers for the 1st and 3rd relays switched. If you call and order a "fan relay" without giving a part number, they will send you the wrong part. I know this applies some, if not all, early 944's. Like i said, i'm not sure about 924's

Read this thread (5th post down) for an explanation http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=116873

You need to look at the relay panel and count which holes have copper contacts inside them to determine which relay you need. If you have 6 contacts, you need part number 944.615.113.01, if you have 4 contacts, you should use part number 141.951.253B

I have both relays I got the 4 prong from the dealer they showed me the book and said "yup that's right here in the book ...look"
"someone must have put the wrong relay in your car"
so when I swapped them out at the first sign of fan trouble I used that 4 prong jobby NG
today I am off to get a new 6 prong and I am sure it will be the solution
I did look back and find an old post on the same subject
the 4 prong is useful in other areas though

The 4-prong is your A/C relay (3rd position)

Nobody put the wrong relay in your car, somebody put the wrong part number in the dealer's book!

Gordon,

The correct fan relay (position 1) part number for early 944's (and it seems, 924's as well) is 944.615.113.01 I reccomend counting contacts inside the relay socket to make sure there are 6, since i have no way of knowing if this applies to ALL early 944's. It appears to, as i've never had anyone tell me anything different> But..... since i haven't personally checked every early 944 in existence i don't know for sure.

I got the new relay for #1 -944.615.113.01 installed it and still have no drivers side fan at any time!
except when the a/c is on then I get both fans at full speed
(iI found a loose wire at the passenger side fan contact that was preventing it from working now it is fine)
I am going to start tracing back all of the wiring tomorrow...
anybody heard of a fan resistor?

cleaned up some wiring, the wires to the switch had some insulation scraped off to them...
so now with the switch connected the fan never comes on unless I turn the a/c on then I get both fans
if I jumper the fan switch I get the drivers fan at low speed key off and high speed key on...
so I think that points to the switch being bad (1 year old) and I have a new one on the way...
coolant is flowing good, all the hoses get hot and the thermostat is stuck open (1 year old as well)
what's the favorite temp switch to use and aren't there different switches for early and late models?
