Passenger Power Window Problems.

Ya, this car had this problem since i got it, but since i fixed most of the major stuff, i thought it'd tackle the smaller stuff, ie electricals.

Alright, this is the story:

My passenger power window:

There are two controls, one from the passenger side, and one from the drivers side.

From the passenger's side..nothing works..not up or down.

From the driver's side...depending on the way you have the connectors up, the window will go only one way. For example

If the black and blue wire on the passenger motor is connected to the electrode on the motor facing you, it will not go down, but will go up, providing the window is open a little bit.

If you flip the connectors, the window will go down, but wont go up.

But neither action can be done from the passenger control.

I checked the voltages on the motor, and it seems good, up until you try to do the action that doesnt work from the driver's side.

If i do up, and it's wired to go up, it shows 12.2 VDC, checks out..but if i try to click the opposite direction (the one that doesnt work) it shows about 0.122 VDC. My father who's an electronics engeneer is helping me out with this, he says one of the grounds may be bad...now, he may be right..but WHERE are the grounds for the power window control? They're scattered all through the car at random frame intersections.

Any help would be appreciate guys.

Swap the two switches on the drivers side with each other (not with the passenger side) and see if the passenger door window switch will work.

The current for the passenger switch goes through the drivers side passengers switch.

If you open them up and find a ball and spring detents then you have really old switches and should replace them as they wear out. The newer switchs have a round tip plunger.

I opened the switches up..the contacts were SO dirty. Dear god..

Anyways..ya..a few of the contacts had permanent carbon deposits, i cleaned them as much as i could..it works..but it's still jittery. I gotta get some new ones.

How did you "popped the switch open"?

My '84 drivers side window switch had to be "jiggled" (technical term) to get to work. Now does not work at all.
