Newly acquired 944NA 1987, some questions

Hi to all, i just acquired a 1987 944NA which i begin to like a lot, despite the fact that i developped a steering rack and coolant leak ... the day after i bought it. Anyhow.

Being used with my 911SC, and having no experience and manual on the 944, i have some questions:
1) whats the normal oil pressure regarding RPM?
2) whats the normal temp?
3) does acquiring a chip worths it? If so which?
4) does acquiring a throttle cam worth it?
5) someone drives it in winter?
6) how the ... do you remove the top???

Thanks for helping.

I have a throttle cam on mine and LOVE IT

For the top...

Insert key to first position forward...push button to lift roof, youll hear it click (hopefully) then undo the two clips on the front and lift up and out.

My oil pressure usually idels around 1.5 to 2. My temp is anything but consistant

Congrats on the purshase! Pics?

Being a recent 944 owner myself I can take a stab answering a few of your questions

1) whats the normal oil pressure regarding RPM?

While stationary my pressure falls between 2-3 during driving stays between 4-5.

2) whats the normal temp?
Before I got my thermostat and water pump changed water temperature stayed in the lower half of the scale. Now after warming up it consistantly remains on 3/4th. It all depends on your thermostat.

3) does acquiring a chip worths it? If so which?

I just got the autothority chip for my '87, and YES, you can definately feel the difference
4) does acquiring a throttle cam worth it?

From what I heard yes, it is worth the $25. That's next on my list.

5) someone drives it in winter?

Why not? Some use their 944's as sole transportation. The body is galvanized, little chance of rust.

6) how the ... do you remove the top???

Someone beat me to this one

PS. Wanna sell me the 911???? :>

I have the throttle cam, and I like it. Worth the $25, and it is reversible, so if you don't like it, you can remove it easily.

For chips. great things have been said about FRWilkes chips.

I drive mine year round. It not that bad in the snow.

FRwilks chip was the best thing i ever bought, scariest thing I ever installed (early 944's DME require you to cut chips of your board and solder his adaptor in), and probably hastened the demise of my Transmission, but i had great fun destroying it.

Second best thing I ever buy will be a new Transmission,

and the third best thing I ever buy will be a new heater core,

and the forth best thing I ever buy will be a new drivers seat,

and.... this could go on for a while....

Yes, I second that...Welcome!

I seem to remember when you were first looking for the 44.

The throttle cam is preference...No performance increase just less pedal travel.

Not sure on oil temp. We are more concerned with water temp.

FrWilks chip is a snap in for the later cars - 2 thumbs up!

Make sure you check/do the belts and seals up front.

Congrats......I wish I had two Porsches!

Hi guys, i am the thread starter. The more i drive it, the more i like it. Can you believe my 911Sc is in the driveway since i got the 944????

If it wasnt for the streering rack and coolant leak, that would have been a nice purchase.

Just bought FRWilk chip. Cant wait.

LAteR!
