Do you know if you are missing spark or fuel. IS the fuel in the tank old. will it start with an alternate fuel like ether or carb cleaner ??

May have sucked up some sediment from the tank into the filter. Expecially if the car sat for a while. fuel may also be bad if the car sat. Do you know if you have fuel pressure. At minimum check the shrader valve at the fuel rail for pressure. compression may also be down if the car sat fir a while. If i varified good fuel pressure i would, change the plugs or clean and gap. add about a tsp of oil to each cyl to help restore compression. If no start then , take a fuel sample off the rail as see what it looks like. ( if bad drain the tank flush the lines and replace the filter. )

Just as an afterthought, when you first turn the key do you hear the pump run slightly. have someone turn the key and lister for the initial pressure build from the pump. possible bad pump.

Water intrusion WILL CAUSE THE FILTER TO BLOCK OFF . Chased this problem down on my 924 (hard rain and bad gas cap seal)
Attached a hose to where filter hooks up and into a glass jar and ran pump until ALL signs of contamination were gone. new filter, runs good.

2 years back there was a small leak in the hose, I replaced part of the hose between the front and back wheels on the drivers side. That is where I disconnected the line and theres nothing coming out. So its not even making it up to the filter.

sounds like a fuel pump or a clogged pick up sock from tank sediment.

lines between the pump and tank are clogged.

drain the tank, disconnect the line, hook it up to an air compressor and blow it out. If it won't clear, replace.

Try a new fuel pump relay. I blew a few of those in my 924 years

LOL!

Yes, check the fuel and the fuel filter for blockage.

#1) Pull the fuel rail
#2) unplug injectors 2-4
#3) place cup under injector # 1 and turn over car and check spray
#4) do same for all injectors

If no fuel coming out use a noid light for Bosch injectors (everywhere) to check the pulse. next would be to clean the injectors and spank em with 12vdc to open em up.

To go deeper you will need a fuel pressure guage to check the pressure on the rail and a vacuum guage to measure the vacuum to the damoer and regulator.

Ah, Rick, it's a 1978 924. Doesn't have electronic injection.

Got CIS?

I hope you have lots of antidepressants, if you do.

if you remove the padding from the trunk/hatch floor you will see the fuel tank sending unit. mark and unplug the wires . then with a hammer and screwdriver (or the appropriate spanner wrench) turn the sending unit counterclockwise about 1/2 inch . sending unit can then lift straight out. use a sealed flashlight( if it is waterproof it is sealed). you can look straight down through the hole and see the sump area with its associated screen covering the outlet going to the fuel pump. I only thought I had gas, gague showed 1/4 tank. visual showed tank was actually empty. No wonder my pump had no gas

Sorry hugh,

I made an assumption and you know what happens when you Assume.

I assumed was the same as the early, only a 2.0. guess I'll read up on the 24.

FLA944 basically has it, with a few modifications-

1. Pull the injectors out and place them in a cup/etc.
2. Then jumper the #30 and #87 terminals on the fuel pump relay (pull the relay off the fuse box and you'll see the numbers imprinted in the plastic by the terminals).
3. You'll now hear the fuel pump running and there should be NO fuel coming from the injectors.
4. Now lift up on the airflow plate and you should see a steady cone-shaped spray from each of the injectors. If you don't then post back and we'll troubleshoot from there.
