Gear Indicators dont light up.
Well, i've got an Automatic 86' and on the gauge cluster is the thing that lights up and indicates what gear you are in. Well it stopped working. Im not getting any sort of lights from it. All the other gauges appear to work though.
Ontop of that i noticed that if im in reverse i have to wiggle around the gear lever in order to get the reverse lights to turn on. When im in gear, I can wiggle the shifter about 1/2 inch or so with no problem. I dont know if thats common or not, figured I would throw it in. Any help? Im hoping that i can just clean up the grounds and be done with it, but anyone else ever had anything similar to this?

Yeah, its common with any car approaching 20 years old.
Grounds will get sensitive, but in the worst case scenario you'll just have to relpace a bulb behind the dash. I had to do this once and luckily the car comes with extras behind the dash panel. Either way, its not a big issue to fix. Clark's Grarage has a great how-to on pulling the dash cluster if you never did it before.

on autos, also check under the shift boot. There is a contact underneath that based on the position of the shifter displays what gear your in. Mine doesnt light up b/c the little spring that pushes and pulls the contact broke. A .25 cent part I'm sure, but damned if i could find a part number.

if i manage to save up enough money to get a lightweight flywheel over the winter break, then ill buy one and put the trans out of my parts car in there.

Contact spring
I just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago. I got one on E-Bay for $3. Anyway on my car, the only ones that don't light up are Park and Drive, all the rest work. Here's the part number:
Porsche 944 contact spring part no. 94461362101 I hope this helps.
