Blown A/C Fuse
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about this problem I'm having with my a/c. I just took the car to the dealer and was very excited to find that they could recharge the system with R12. I was however disappointed when they told me I needed a new climate control unit, around 630 dollars. Here are the symptoms: when I press the a/c button the 7.5 amp fuse to the climate control blows. When the compressor won't start, i.e. I take the relay out or prior to the the system charging (meaning the low pressure switch would prevent the compressor from starting), and I press the a/c button the climate control responds by adjusting vents and the motor reacts. I suspect a short but I'm not sure where to look. The dealer said that they jumped the compressor and cold air started to blow. I haven't replaced the relay yet, that's next. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks, Matt |

May be over simplistic, but the second cooling fan comes on when you turn on the AC. My second fan seized, and everytime I turned on the AC, it burned the same fuse. I replaced the fan with an updated 6 blade fan, and everything has been cool ever since...pun intended..I hope this helps......

Thank you very much. That was the kind of tip I was looking for. Never would have thought of it.
