Rear hatch installation
Got the car to a windshield installer get the rear hatch reinstalled because it's unglued. The guy told me that to get the steel trim off the window and back on with new glue would take at least 6 hours and there were good chances to break the glass.
My question is, any one got the window re glued and if yes is there any procedure or precaution to take. I'm not really confident in leaving the job with no instruction to the guy it doesn't look as if he done to many. Philippe.

I pulled mine apart about 3 weeks ago. I went to a glass replacment shop and the guy there looked at it and said "good luck". He then handed me 2 tubes of the glue for free. It took two 5-6 hour days to get the thing apart, by using a 1 and 1/2 inch flexable steel putty knife and some narrow wood wedges to pull the already seperated frame from glass. It was holding together very well except at the driverside top corner. Another couple hours to clean the glass and frame. Straighten the frame. The reglueing part was easy. Had the wife help reset the glass. After waiting a full day and 1/2, I replace the spolier and trim pieces. I waited a another week to attach the shocks. The whole event took almost 4 working days and it was much harder event then pulling an engine. It did feel like I was going to break the glass, but the glass is rather thick and remarkably strong and flexable.

Mine is close to being separated from the frame all the way around so the frame should not be very hard to take off. It's reassuring to hear that the glass is quite strong and flexible. I'm going to keep looking for a guy that seem more confident in is ability to do the job.
Thanks, Philippe.

Why don't you just do it yourself? Put a ballgame on the radio and get on with it. You'll take greater care with it because YOU have to pay for replacement glass. They'll not give a damn. They already told you it will "probably break" which means they will try to sell you the replacement and make the mark up and install labor.
It ain't rocket science and (at least theoretically) you can drive the car while the hatch is out, just watch where you park. Good luck.

Why not just buy a used hatch and replace it?
