Cost and time?

Anyone know how long it takes to R&R a compressor and convert it to R134A? how about how much it costs to do it at a shop?

really?

they told me they'd have to test my system, evacuate the r12, do the conversion, and fill with r134, then test the system again... and that'd cost upwards of 500.. I didn't take it in because I dont have the 5 bills just laying around...

I should probably shop around a little more.. if I could get it done for 250 cdn, I'll jump on it..

I'm definately going to do the job myself, my father does HVAC for a living and I've worked with him for the past 10 years on and off so I know how to do it and I have all the proper equipment. Reason I was asking time and cost is because I'm going to be doing it on another listers car and I wanted to get an idea of how much it runs out there so I can work out a fair price with him for the work. I'm going to be swapping out a compressor and a dryer and then evacuating the system and recharge with R134A.

Cost less than $75 for me. I had the high side hose to condensor rebuilt on that tab as well. I'm curious as to why the suggestion was made to remove the alternator? For an 83, get a 90 degree adapter that converts to 134 for the low side fitting. You may need a shorter drive belt. IIRC, 17mm wrenches will be your best friend to remove the lines on the compressor. Time... 3 hours, I work slow though.
