Well I think I lost a engine...

Driving home from a friends the car started smoking bad, then I look down and notice I have to oil pressure luckily he lives like 2 miles from my house and I coasted home most of the way. Get home and there is oil all over the engine compartment...

I noticed that there wa no smoke coming out of the tail pipe and the oil is coming out what looks to be between the head and the block right behind the front of the engine. I should mention that the belt was whining on the car but I assume that is because of the belt being to tight. I havent even unbolted anything yet but figured I would let you guys know and see if you can diagnose this problem...

But either way I think I'm done with the car its been nothing but problem after problem so I'm either gonna part it or save up and drop the lt1 in and go with renegade's kit.

You won't get $3200 for the car complete in that condition.

You might get more parting it out than you would selling it whole.

I lost my keys one time...but I've never lost an engine. Clean out the garage, maybe you put it in there! You may want to check the seals in the front of the engine around the cam or maybe even be the cam housing loose that is leaking and running down. Someone else here had the cam housing leaking and he thought it was a blown head gasket as well. I wouldn't give up on my car that easy.

Yea that maybe because the car didnt sputter or anything when the oil blew out of it, and didnt hear anything metallic breaking... Idk though this is one of three cars I have and it has been nothing but problems, but I must say when it didnt have the hood up it was a blast Thats why I think a lt1 would be a good solution eliminate all the wiring and engine and turn it into a nice lil track car

theres no way it will ever be able to be a track car with an lt1 in there.. unless you mean drag racing track.

lt1 = no power brakes + bad weight dist.

On 560sec.com/bulletinboard there are some threads about weight and brakes... I'm teetering on the edge of doing a swap, but I can't bring myself to do it yet. Going from a 944 engine to an LS1 you only gain (I think) 50 lbs... I can't find the post where one of the members did a four-corner weighing of the car. LT1s are a little heaver, around 120 lbs total. It's not an insignificant amount of weight, but... I don't think it's a dealbreaker.

Hi, I am new to the forum. I have a 1985.5na that had a similar problem. The oil pressure relief valve in my car was the 3 piece version, and it got stuck closed (oil pressure really high) and I blew out my oil filter. I lost 6 quarts of oil in mere seconds! Check around the seal of the filter and see if the gasket is blown out. If it is, you probably have the same problem I had.

I ended up pulling off the oil cooler housing (and the oprv with it) cleaned it all up, and put it all back together. When all was said and done, there were actually 4 parts to the oprv that come into play; the outer plug, a spring, a piston, and a sleeve that mounts firmly in the engine block. The sleeve is a guide for the piston. Mine had released from the engine block, and would sometimes interfere with the piston - hence the high oil pressure. When it blocked the piston - oil everywhere!!!

Mine runs fine now. Hope this helps.

My car ran at 4.5 to 5 when it was cold... but once it warmed up it went down to 2 2.5 at idle., which is normal. Hopfully you guys are right and its just a simple seal...

But I wont worry about it for now if the engine is going to get work done either its getting high compression pistons and some porting or I'm dropping in the lt1.
