drives and dies revisited
thanks for the input in the prior posting. NA 86 944 automatic; while driving in any weather, road, or rpm condition the blessed thing will just stop running, diesel as it quits. It will start again immediately or shortly, not enough time for something to cool down. So far: DME replaced, fuel filter replaced, fuel pump checked; still does it: I have been varying the input on the throttle as I drive and that seems to keep it from dying; today it started to die so I gave it some throttle and it kept on going. I am going to change the filter screen in the tank and am wondering if there is a mechanism that sends a message to cut off the fuel to the engine (other than turning the key off or no gas in the tank). At a steady rpm is there some sensor or the ICV that could cause this condition? This is a decent 944 and I want it to be running well when it goes up for sale in the near future, plus it is just fun to work on and fix when there is a problem. Austen

You replaced the DME, but not the DME relay?
When it starts to die, does the tach drop to 0 before the engine quits?
