possible 944 fire

Decided i would drive the 944 this morning
it had rained all day yesterday if this helps
started car warmed up drove to gas station about 1 block away
had defroster on & head lights , the normal stuff
got out of the car when i came back the interior smelled awful
rotten eggs & car died noticed oil px was low got car to restart drove it back to house and it died again i disconnected the battery encase of elect short

??? how are the harnesses in the 944 is it a sectional harness
meaning i can just replace the under dash pieces
2nd ever hear of this happening where should i start
looking for the cause im leaning to the interior since you can only smell it inside and not outside

the rotten egg smell is your battery. your charging system is faulty.

The front end is a detachable harness. Goes through the fire wall to three conectors. The biggest is the computer and a 3 connector and a 2 connector. Checkk all your grounds. There everywere. Should be diagram on this site. First car I've seen like this and a lot of people have problems. Pull them of and clean them.

Rotten egg smell from battery means it is over-charging. Make sure that your regualtor is regulating and not over-charging your batttery. Rotten egg smell also caan come from catalytic convertor. But its prob your battery being over-charged.

the cat is 2 weeks old so i doubt it would be that

and at 13.86 v running i doubt its over charging

butt it might have been over charging earlier and not now

I'm starting to scratch my head on this one .
theres a bunch of freaking grounds to clean and some really suck to get at
and its not smelling up the joint anymore so what ever it was ,
it has stopped for now. butt ill keep looking for burnt & sulfur /egg smelly items

The bounds of this statement are infinite.

There are grounds all over, some are near the front under the nose panel area by the left front fender. About 8 of them all bundled on one bolt. They are hard to get to but if you are going to clean ground might as well clean them all. It's worth it down the road..

OK, I respect German Design, but.... WHAT THE HELL WAS PORSCHE THINKING? 8 Ground wires to one ground point? I always was told never to ground on top of another ground...

I understand the whole chassis is a ground but I was told grounding on top of another ground directly can cause weird electrical problems, especially in audio/video systems.

The car I was working on at the time I noticed that ground point DID have an extremely rigged wiring harness, but I am pretty sure it had several grounds all bolted to the chazzy at one point and I am pretty sure all the cars are like that..

So, in theory, wouldn't it be better (healthier) for the electrical system to seperate those grounds to other locations and even expand on the ground system?

It could help with electrical problems that, in essence, start fires (with the exception of the notorious fuel line).
