Aftermarket Coil Ballast Resistor
I installed the Jacobs ultra coil that required ballast resistor. The ballast resistor
I bought it from local auto parts store. Can anyone tell me which ballast resistor works best for the ignition coil? The local auto parts store sell only aux. fan resistor and AC motor blower ballast resistor. |

have you tried contacting Jacobs and asking what resistance value resistor you should be using? I can't believe your FLAPS doesn't sell any at all, but you probably have to ask for one by application not resistance value. Old MoPars used ballasts, as well as other cars that used Prestolite ignitions (Studebakers as well) I would be willing to bet that some MoPar application would work for you.
The advantage to an external ballast resistor is that you can bypass the ballast when the starter motor is engaged to help starting. good luck nate

No, I have not contact Jacob yet. At this moment, I do not have their website.
I bought it from Automotion. When I first installed the coil without the ballast resistor, the car did not start. |

that doesn't sound right... it should start without a ballast and run just fine, I just wouldn't like to let it run like that for long for fear of damaging the DME

What I meant the car did not start was that it will crank, but it seems as the
start jammed the moment I turned the ignition key. I got this rare ballast resistor from Baxter Auto Parts store and intalled it since sometime 1998. I took it out last week due to low idle. When I asked for ballast resistor , they just sold it to me. I did not know what kind of resistor it was for. |
