AC question? noise, etc....

When my AC goes on, the car changes "personality." The engine gets louder and the car gets a slight case of the "shakes." Is this normal for an old car? what causes this?

Mine shakes with the A/C on at idle, it's because you are turning an additional piston type air compressor.
As far as changing personality, mine gets *****y once a month...oh wait...that's something else

I think the idle is supposed to kick up a bit when the a/c is turned on, but I'm not sure, mine doesn't. The a/c will shake mine a bit, I think it's normal, and I know I don't have a bad compressor, or it's going south, etc....
