Quick Timing Belt Question for y'all!
Hi, I have a new to me '84 944NA, that I'm replacing the timing belt on. I read through a few procedures, but I have one question for you guys- I have rotated the engine so it is at TDC according to the mark on the flywheel. The mark on the cam gear was 1 tooth to the RIGHT of the mark on the rear distributor housing. Is this right? I thought I read it should be to the left. If someone could clear that up for me, I can finish this project up!
I know, planning on getting a Haynes...

Hi wertygrog! Get Haynes ASAP and read it over and over again. Use it as your bed lecture and you will learn how to do the most on your car. And dont forget Clarks garage. Most useful I must say. Good luck!

Hi, thanks, a Haynes is definitely on my list...too bad it's sunday and no parts store around here carries the haynes I need..

Sounds right to me. I usually see about 1/2 - 1 tooth off on the cam gear with the car set at TDC using the 'OT' mark in the bell housing window (visible from looking straight down by the firewall).

Wert,
You may have seen my posts. I just had a bad experience performing the belt job. Check TDC on both the cam amd crank often. Make sure your belts are properly seated in all grooves so you don't go through what I am now. Good luck and let us know when you crank er up. |
