Change Over question

My 1983 944 N/A is very mechanically sound. When I bought it, it had new paint and looked great, inside and out. The only drawback was that it had a salvage title on it which DMV cannot tell me why since they dont know.
Since then, I've invested a small amount of money in it to clean up the mechanical problems I inherited with it and it drives like a dream.
However, over 6.5 years, the new paint job reveals that it was a very inexpensive, quick job and does not look very good at all. I've had a small accident in it that messed up the left front fender and the nose. Ive replaced the nose and will replace the fender this week.
What I am thinking of doing is maybe finding a later model 944 with a nice interioir and body (85/2 or above) with a blown motor or transmission and swap my good mechanicals into the new body.
What am I looking at to pull my engine and put it into a later model body other than to swap the DME?
Or pulling my trans to put into a later model body?
I do really like the newer interior of the 85.5 and up!
Thanks

I dont understand what the point of all that work would be?

The only way I could make sense of doing that would be if the car was wrecked and became totalled. But if the body, interior, motor, and everything is in good shape overall then what is there to be unhappy about? If you wanted to do the swap to increase the value of the car, then why not just sell the car whole to someone who doesnt care what kind of title it has (as long as it has a title) and just buy a different 944...

My car was once wrecked before I got it and now has a salvage title as well. But even if the car is not worth much on the market, it would be much LESS worth it to swap everthing into a different car (in my opinion).
I've decided to keep my car forever unless it does get totalled or something, in which I would probably swap everything into another chassis.

I've owned 4 cars now with the "924" interior since 1980 and the scene is getting a bit familiar. And since I am now disabled, on social security and unable to go back to work, being short of cash, I am looking for someway to get into a newer car. If I can pick up an 85.5 up with a blown engine or transmission or both at a reasonable price, that sounds good to me.
If the body is straight, I dont care about a salvage title. Its not about that. But It would be nice to have a clean title.

No need, but I see where you are getting at.

Honestly though, I think you could find a good deal for a complete, running 85.5 and up 944 and not go through the hassle of swapping stuff over. Last year I missed out on another 86 944 for $500 in fair condition, but mechanically sound.

But anyhow, it just seems it would be more simple and probably equivilant in expenses to just sell the car you have and buy a newer year, and avoid doing all the swaps.

Just trying to offer some suggestions. However you go about it though, I wish you the best of luck!

Why not sell it and buy what you want?

Did you not see my posting above? I dont have much $$ and I only have one car as it is. If I can get a later car for cheap, I will sell my old one. But if not, I'll cannibalize my car to complete a shell and sell off my old shell or part it out or use it for a parts car. But then again I dont have any storage room at all.
