Power window not staying up...
My driver side window started causing problems last year at the end of the year. The passenger side works great and the driver side used to as well. When I power the window down it sometimes "jumps" and drops halfway down. Then when I put it up again I need to pull it up to get it up. I can hear the motor running just fine with no strange noises.
Is something broken in there or does something just need to be tightened up? The weather is getting warmer here so I will take it apart within the next week to try to see what's going on in there. Anyone with past experience and fixes with this would be a great help! Thanks!

Did it fall out of the track or off the arm?

Hello,
Common problem with allot of 944/951 are the Cross Arm Rollers wearing out. Sounds like the cross arm rollers could be at fault here, these are the small slide buttons attached to the scissor like cross arms that fit into the tracks, are worn out or popped off. You may need to replace the whole assembly (No. 13 in the bottom diagram - Cross Arm, Power Window , 477.837.391.C). The window motor if working properly can be removed and attached to the newer window lift assembly. It’s to much of a pain to just replace the buttons/rollers to the cross arms, and then they just come off easily again after re-assembly. Then there is the realignment of the window after assembly - Do not completely tighten all of the mounting bolts (I think they are No. 9 in the diagrams, and there are twelve of them, M6x10 self locking) that hold/fasten the assembly into the door shell. Let the window go up easily into top/closed position. Tighten the mounting bolts. If the window goes up and down easily you are set - if not re do above adjustments. Look for the missing rollers, if not maybe it is a more simple problem there??

It's that time of the year again for me to get to work on a few projects on the car. One of them is the window.
I have no power to the car right now as I am taking care of a bunch of small things. I did take the door panel off today to try to inspect the window. After a pretty decent inspection of everything, the window is up and it is solid. I did not feel a single thing loose nor did anything look out of place or missing. As a matter of fact I was surprised at how tight everything felt. I did not have the opportunity to operate the window as I have no power yet. After reading the parts manual, the power window motor is listed as "engine and transmission." Could it be the transmission? Anyone ever have a problem with this before? Can you adjust it? Or does it need to be replaced? THANKS!

You may have to power the window up to see how and when it does not track successfully. It may be a simple adjustment to get it correct again.
I have always referenced the Transmission and Motor Assembly as the Motor and Cross Arm Assembly - May be correct in the manual as Transmission and Motor assembly. The motor unbolts from the assembly only, the rest of the assembly is better dealt with as a complete assembly (No. 13 in the diagram above for the power window). I have found at times excellent Cross Arm Assembles used on evilBay at very reasonable prices - Allot of times the assembly comes with the original motor there and they are allot less than a new one from Porsche - They are sold on Pelican Parts also. Most of the problems I have encountered have been the Cross Arm Rollers wear and then the window does some strange things when going up and down.

Check to make sure the glass has not come away from the track that is bonded to it.
Power the window down and then pull up on the corner of the glass. If the window can be pulled up at an angle then it is possible this has happened. It is also possible that the rollers have come out of the track or worn out... or both. Just have a good strong hold on the window. You do not want to drop it into the door... it could break and or dent your door outward. Ooops... The window regulator could also have cracked. If the bolts that hold it in have come loose this can happen. If all else checks out inspect the casting portion of the window regulator for cracks. If it turns out you need one let me know. I have 4 for sale. Eric Eturbo924@yahoo.com

Eric,
Thanks for the info. I am going to take it apart tomorrow, weather permitting. I will check the regulator for loose screws. How much are you asking for a new motor? I do think I have it narrowed down to that. Any instructions anywhere for the removal of the motor? Thanks!

** UPDATE **
Several teeth are broken off of part #13 in the diagram. It looks like #13 will have to be replaced. The good news is that I can get it to stay up! The bad news is I look foolish pulling my window up by hand till it catches.
