Water Pump Tube
When I replaced my coolant hoses awhile back, I noticed that the hard pipe that runs from the water pump to the heater core had some damage on it where a hose connects to it, and I've finally been able to get one. I also suspect that this may be the ultimate source of a slow leak I've been dealing with.
Anyway, with my car being an automatic, there are two oil cooler lines for the transmission running above that pipe; has anyone ever had to remove these before? I'd like to think that I might be able to move things around in such a way that I won't have to disconnect the transmission oil lines, but I figured that I'd ask around to be sure. Also, does anyone know the torque specs for the two bolts holding the tube to the cam tower? I'd imagine it's the same torque spec as the rest of the cam tower bolts, but ya never know.

Hello
I had an automatic 1987 n/a for a very long time and never, ever had to remove those "transmission" cooling lines. However, with that said, the torque is not the same for those bolts it is lower. If I remember correctly they are M6 bolts correct? Should be about 7.5 ft lbs M6, for the transmission lines clamps holding them. The heater pipe M8 are about 15 ft lbs. Good luck and I hope this helps you.

Good to hear that I shouldn't have to move those lines; though I do kinda want to get some sand paper or something after them, they're looking pretty rough and could use some sprucing up.
While on the topic of coolant tubes and such, is there any advice for replacing the heater core hoses? Not really looking forward to it, but it's gotta get done.

The tranny lines are coated with a protective coating and get banged up during maintenance. You can cover them with a high temp paint, kinda like putting lipstick on a pig. Make sure that the heat shield is in place. Last edited by Swennydawg; 08-01-2018 at 07:51 AM.. |
