anyone in CT have an 8mm 12pt tool for the axles?

I'm running up to CJFuscos house tomorrow to help him swap the trans, and I neglected to bring that particular tool home with me.

Anyone in the hartford area have the 8mm 12pt hex tool to take the axle bolts out?

If your in a bind i have had luck finding them at local autopart stores. They are not the greatest quality but get the job done if your careful.

Pepboys is the only place in our town that carried a set. Advance Auto didn't.

Matt is helping me replace a tranny tomorrow; I will call all the local PepBoys in the AM to try to find one.

If anyone has one in CT, though, that would be willing to let me borrow it, I would be most appreciative.

Like TechnoDuck said, The quality at FLAPS is poor. I bought a set from AutoZone and this was the result after one use. The 8mm for the CV bolts-I did clean out the recess-chipped but I was able to finish. The 12mm for the FW bolts chipped as well but I filed the head down to get the last bolt in at 65 foot pounds.

Have a tube of CV grease to repack the joints.

I had the exact same experience... I believe the set cost me around $20 at autozone, lasted long enough for me to do both sides of CVs but were trashed by the end.

Yep, exactly what i meant. The tips get distorted. I have a good quality set from Genius Tools, the 8mm needed for the CV joints was distorted enough that it does not engage (caused by some uber tight CV joint bolts on my friends car). I was doing the clutch and couldnt even get the tool to slide in... had to make a trip down to Autozone and pickup a set of the cheapo ones. Luckily the larger one needed for the flywheel bolts worked out no problem on my good set. The fact you need to use a 1/2 inch socket makes it a pain in the neck. Especially working around the CV axle.

Funny story: I called every major autoparts store this morning looking for the damn tool, and got the same answer from every one of them: "nope, we don't carry it." My neighbor drives down to the nearest one - and Advance Auto - and they have it sitting right on the shelf. It was the first store that I called! The guy obviously didn't even bother to look!

BTW, a big thank you goes out to Matt (bluebullet) and my friends Josh and Richie for helping me out, and basically dedicating an afternoon to a very unpleasant task. The 951 is back!
