clutch won't disengage
87 944s: clutch doesn't disengage:
1. when I crank the engine with clutch pedal depresed, shifter in 1st gear, car lurches forward; Possibly the slave or master cylinder, or air in system, or is the clutch broken? Pins in the shifter likage maybe? Where do I start? The car has been sitting several months since driven last; |

Lie under the driver's side while someone else depresses the clutch. Clutch lever should move. If it does, mechanical problem. I have seen a stuck disc do this. . .bumping the starter with clutch depressed should free it up. You could also put the car in 5th and push it forward with clutch depressed.
If the lever doesn't move, hydraulic problem. If it were my high mileage car, I would buy new master and slave cylinders, and a new hose just for peace of mind.

Cranked with shifter in first with my foot on the brake and the clutch broke free. maybe the clutch plate was sticking to the flywheel? all seems ok (for the moment)
