Tire help
Hey everyone,
Well my phonedial's get here tomorrow, and I need to know some good GRIPPY tires that are good in the rain.. I don't have an extremely large budget, but can spend some money. I don't want tires that wear too quickly. So something that is grippy, has good wear, and are not rediculously expensive thanks for the help |

Well-said. Shop around, but in general you're gonna' get what you pay for.

Don't know just how grippy you are after, but I just got a set of these recently and they're pretty good.

The bridgestones *are* pretty good. They have a silica-enhanced rubber compound (rubber with sand) that works pretty durned good in the rain. Better than anything else I've tried...The 960's are under $100/tire in 215/60/15 (stock 944 size), shipped, from tire rack or tires.com. Stay away from Kumho if you want grippy in the wet on the street. I have had two different sets of them and they're like grease.

The Bridgestones are definitely the best in the wet of all the mostly cheap tires I've run, too.

I've had great luck with the General Exclaim UHP's.......about $100 each from Tire Rack. Excellent in the rain, smooth & quiet, great grip, and very long wearing. Check out the comparisons to other tires on Tire Rack.

agreed on the bridgestones. among all the performance tires, those are the best in the rain. why do u want rain performance anyway? are you going to going balls out when it's wet on the ground?

From personal experience, Dunlaps were "grippy", but no advance notice when there were about to let go. Meaning, they don't start to squeal when they start losing that "grippiness". One moment you're straight then the next your ass end is coming around on you. Also not the best in the wet (+2 on the Brigdestones for that). Goodrich, most reasonable priced rubber, although no way near as stable as the Dunlaps were. Bought a set of Falkans about a year ago. A bit loud, but no complains so far, and no track time as with the others.

Well, I am going to be road tracking it here in December, and it normally rains here in December, so, that is why I am asking about rain performance too!

buy tires based on how the car will be driven on those tires 80% of the time

15" diameter? 16"s? How about width? All this will play into how many types/brands sizes you should be looking for. Dunlop Direzza star sports? - they come in 16" but not 15" for instance.
Are you running same width all around? staggered? Any suspension upgrades? Bone stock? x2 on rain being a GREAT teacher for smoothness. If you learn to drive well in the rain, the dry is eaven easier!

Don't know if they are available in the USA, but I use Vredestein Sportrac3 in rather rainy England. Mid-price, way best wet braking in a magazine comparison test with some much more expensive tyres, and very good in all other performance categories tested.
