When do thye turn classic? price up?

When do you guys predict that the 944 series goes classic and values start to increase, I understand that the prices for these cars are fairt low now.....but I mean these are great drivers cars any clue when theyll turn? Also Ive read a couple articles in euro auto magz that the 944 series is on the verge and probabaly in 5-7 years values will start to increase dramatically....comments or info welcomed-chris

Well, seeing how the prices for the early 928s are beginning to climb (the best deal you can get right now on a 928 are the 80-82 models), I would expect that the 944 will begin appreciating in value in about 4 years... assuming that they don't end up like the 924 and stay bargain basement deals indefinitely (which I don't think they will).

Given enough time, even the 924 prices will start to climb (as they become rarer and good-condition models become more difficult to find).

I don't think that 944 or 928 prices will "dramatically" increase anytime soon. There are simply too many 944s around and the older ones usually need way to much work. 928s go the same way. They will never be an investment, the depreciation curve may slow but not completely stop. Look at 911 prices if you need an example and sad though the truth is, the 911 is the one considered a "true" Porsche. The 944 and 928 are not. 924 prices are not going up or anything like it, just slowing the downward spiral. As the price of parts and labor increases less and less 944s and 928s will be on the road, as has happened to the 914 and 924. Only true enthusiasts, who can and are prepared to run these cars will. Unfortunately, the 911 has an intrinsic value, old 944 and 928 don't.

What about the 87-88 S model? They had the pretty low production numbers, this would help, along with the Turbo S.

Sorry, as the least reliable of all 944 due to the potential engine problems, I can't see them gaining classic status. Check the prices now; year for year 944s are less than 944. and you can now buy decent S2 for a little more money.

There's nothing really wrong with the 944S it's just that so many of them have had cylinder head problems and now with the price of parts and labor they aren't worth repairing.
