Unhappy Rear wiper problem

Okay guys, here’s my dilemma. I currently own a Euro Spec 1987 944. I bought it used (has anyone ever actually bought a new one?) and in the space where a rear wiper was supposed to go the former owner had a CB antenna. There is a switch for the rear wiper mounted on the console so I figured it must be wired for one. So I found one on Ebay for a reasonable price, bid on it and won. Now comes the interesting part. When I go to install it (expecting it to be plug and play) I find the connectors are not compatible. The motor has three inputs- hot, neutral and ground I assume. What I thought was the power connector for it already installed in the car was rectangular shaped with 8 possible outputs with only 7 being used. One has 12vdc on it and one is a short to ground and the other seven don’t seem to have anything on them. To make a long story short trial and error proved that is not the right connector. I then checked the switch and found three wires coming from it brown, red/blue, and red/black. So I then proceed to find a connector in the back that has three prongs and that color combination. No go. There is only one other three prong (circular) connector and again through trial and error I found that one is not the right one either. I can’t seem to find any other connector. Can one of you with a rear wiper (preferably Euro Spec, but either will do) please check and let me know what your configuration looks like. If necessary I can run new wires from the switch to the wiper. However, I obviously would prefer to work smarter not harder and find the proper existing connector. Thanks.

Mark

There were three versions of the rear wiper made for the 944 and one specifically made for the 924S.

The one you have is most likely for a Series 1 (1983 - 1985/1).

Here are the Part Numbers.

924S (to HN452624) and 944 83-85/1: 477.955.955

86 - 87 924S (from HN452625): 477.955.955A

85/2 - 86 944: 944.628.995.01

1987 - 1991 944: 944.628.995.03

The Motor is the same for all models, unfortunately, the mounting points and wiring harnesses are completely different through the years.

You can order the early (series 1) wiring harness from Porsche - you need both the front and rear harness.

Front: 477.971.346
Rear: 477.971.345.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Okay, I've found out which plug it is. However, there is no voltage on it. Can someone please check their owner's manual and tell me which fuse is for the rear wiper. I'd check mine but it's in German, and none of the entries directly translates to "hinterer Windowwischer".

Thanks
Mark

I have an 85.5, been lookin in the manual, there is no fuse listed for the rear wiper (i have one also), only #24 fuse, a 30 amp one that does wiper motor, heatable wiper nozzles, and both washer pumps. Relay G3 is a test relay for checking fuses (it has the green light on it) but it also says rear window. Since #13 fuse is the rear defogger and heated mirrors.... the only other powered rear window accy is the wiper... Check relay G3

Thanks. Yeah, I was able to translate G3. My book say Heckscheibe/ Test. Heckshceibe does translate to rear window. However, what on the rear window!? Also it doesn't make any sense to me to also use the test relay for an accessory. I know my test relay works (the green light comes on when I insert a good fuse). However, if the rear wiper voltage is also sent through there perhaps it's not making it. At least I have a place to start tomorrow. Do you thinks it's possible the test function is working but the actual relay portion is not? It would be nice if there was a schematic available for that relay.

g3 is also your window defogger relay....nothing to do with your wipers....... as far as I remember there is no relay for the rear wiper.......

you should have three wires in the back for the rear wiper....green/black green/brown....(if memory serves me right)

Some one may have yanked them out when they put in the CB?
