High compression

I did a compression test on my car and it came out quite a bit higher than the 145 psi low tolerance limit. It said in the instructions that it could be carbon build up. Has anyone else had this experience?

what is the year of your 944? and what were the readings?

88, the readings were up around 180 or 200

Congratulations! Those are great numbers! I think the 145 range is too low. Haynes says 145, but many members here say those numbers are incorrect.

18/19 x 10.2 = 184/194

you are within spec i think.

Isn't the compression supposed to be the atmospheric pressure times the compression ratio?

9.7x14.7=142.6psi

no. check what devek says about cylinder compression as it relates to compression ratio.

You're the first person that I've know to be worring about too high of compresion. Its when you get the 100 psi or the dreaded 0 psi, when you start to worry.

I wasn't worried, I was just wondering if it meant that there was alot of carbon build up in the cylinders.
