Solid, reasonably priced '86 951 (x-post)

Here's the Pelican Thread. It's pretty much a link to my Craigslist Ad.

Kind of surprised there hasn't been much more of a response. I wish this had been around when I was buying my first 951...would have saved me a lot of expense and trouble.

Really? Suprised?

Problems are power steering being out (i bought a manual rack and never installed...it's fine as is but parallel parking sucks), no AC, and running rich. I generally get 24-26 mpg. I'll be selling this WITH an emissions test if sold to someone local. Has about 166K miles on it but you'd never know it.... Interior is typical (that is, driver seat is trashed; passenger is pretty good; dash is cracked but I have a fabric overlay for it; just replaced little console hinge). Overall body is good and completely rust free with only a few minor defects (some dings; another previous owner had holes drilled for the silly Porsche reflector; sunroof damaged but I have a replacement; some backed in to me and tweaked that header panel that bolts in between the headlights). ....
I also don't think that

price is NOT negotiable. Please don't contact me unless you intend to pay 4800 cash for this car
is a friendly approach to selling a used up, beat up car that would take $5K to restore.

How could a car like this, when were looking, "saved you a lot of expense and trouble"?

Hey thanks for your concern there Ricer. Yes...I am surprised. When I bought my first 951 I enjoyed it for two months until the balance shaft bearing went (destroying the block with it). $4500 down the drain. Had I bought this car instead, I'd still be driving the car every day two years later. It's a solid dependable car. That's how it would have saved me money.

This is a car for someone to drive and enjoy. I don't think anyone exects a concourse car. Restore? You can spend endless money restoring. What would you spend 5k on? Clutch is solid; no grinds in the trans; suspension tight; boosts perfectly well; top end rebuild 20K ago.

I guess you could spend a little money ($80 for the Porsche reflector; $125 for the header panel; $250 for decent seat; pay someone to install the manual rack ; $40 at autozone to covert/recharge the AC? if you don't want to get your hands dirty? Pay someone to install the sunroof??, $500 Maaco). It does run rich...never figured out the problem but it's still getting good gas mileage. It can't be dangerously rich. Change the oil more or get it checked out. It's probably not such a bad thing for a turbo car anyway. Seriously, what do you expect to get for 4800 in the 951 world?

Dude, perhaps you're right, but have you tried to sell a car on Craigslist lately? I thought it was very kind of me to extend the olive branch out to the Nigerians.

it is not a bad looking car from the stand point of a buyer but the ad doesnt really help move the car.

What about keeping maintenance records? Belts? None of that info is there. The pictures could have been taken after the car had been detailed. I know you dont want to spend any money on the car but detailing a car is a great way to get it sold. people love the newly waxed shiny tires and clean interior smell.

Indeed. This is a lazy, half-assed attempt to sell a car. I'll follow your advice and try to pretty this thing up a bit. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll even take Racer's advice and make the ad a little less obnoxious.
