Those are 968 mirrors but brace yourself the OE one goes for approx $500,oo a piece but they come up for sale once in a while either here or somewhere else on use parts for sale ,still asking price is usually pretty steep.Rjackel 944 ,yes if you do the shave bumper mod you'll have to fabricate parts that will go around the turns signals in order to close the gap left when you remove the bumperettes. I did mine but without pushing the front bumper in .Also did the rear using AIR fiberglass Bumper.

968 mirrors

I just did or am still doing a similar modification to my back bumper. I was actually able to cut my back bumper shocks and weld them to bring my bumper in about 2.5 or 3 inches. I can post some pictures up later when I am on my computer instead of my phone. It worked real well. I am removing the bumperettes as well and over all saving 14 lbs on the rear bumper assembly. I know it doesn't match the 27 lb savings of the fiberglass rears but this was free so far instead of $300 and it may still offer at least a litttle parking lot bump safetey where as the fiberglass ones will definately not.

I emailed drift (the owner of the orangeish car you posted) about pushing the bumper in a while back and If I remember correctly, he informed me that all you have to do is release the oil in the bumper shocks and then push the bumper in. I drilled one shock and released the oil. I was able to push that side in almost all of the way. The other bumper shock was already blown but likely still has some liquid in it because I cannot push it all the way in but most of the way. I will drill the shock this summer so I can push the bumper in even more but have just ran it as is for a couple months now. Right now I am able to push it in about 3" so it doesn't stick out so much. Easy job to do.

Is this the same with the early cars? I didn't know there was an oil in the shock..Mine don't move at all. What exactly do you mean when you say "drill the shock"?

_____ ( Infos taken of a Pelican tread dating from 2003)

You can only get 2 to 2½" of travel out of the shock. To collaspe the shock drill a 1/8" hole in it (be very carefull there are under pressure) drill this hole in the back of the shock the part that goes in the body. Then use a vice or a large C-clamp to compress them. (I suggest you wear safety classes when drilling.)

I will have to check but I'm pretty sure I got more than 2 1/2" out of my compression. Use a small bit and drill in the area specifically marked for it as it is the thinest spot. The spot is clearly marked on the shock. The fluid is not terribly compressed but yes, safety stuff is suggested. Once the fluid is out they are easy to compress so no need for a clamp.

Installing the bumper is not easy if you have the shocks compressed. Once drilled, pump the shocks to get out all the fluid then leave them uncompressed. Next, install them on the car like normal. Attach your bumper to the uncompressed shocks, then compress the whole bumper in. If you try to install the bumper on compressed shocks you may mess up your paint and you will have to remove the lower valance to tighten the bumper bolts to the shocks. Compress the shocks AFTER you attach the bumper to them.

Best of luck.
