Undertray Diffuser?
Okay so this is a dumb thread - feel free to agree. I recently read a Car and Driver article on the Ferrari 599XX - a car very similar to a 944 in that it is a transaxle car, it's like the 944 is its rightful big brother. The tremendous handling is attributed mainly to aero on this car and the undertray and diffuser are chief components in this.
Has anyone ever seen or imagined a full undertray and rear diffuser for our cars? The front of my 951 has a two part bottom which can't hurt, but how about the full 599XX treatment? My car is at the shop, so I can't go shine a flashlight under it to contemplate the merits of undertaking such a costly and ultimately fruitless project (although I've spent plenty of time under there on a creeper staring at the rusted wastegate bolts and the oil trickling down from my cam cover gasket), but what do you think?

Have you seen the underside of cars of that caliber? I got the chance to see both my 944 and a 964 on a two poster in the same arvo. Wow what a difference. The 964 was very clean and flat. The underside of a 944 looks a mess. Its been discussed before but I can't remember if it was here or the Rennlist 951 board.

One of the recent issues of Grassroots Motorsports Magazine touched on aerodynamics and some basic ideas on how to improve air flow around the car.
The trick is doing so without adding a ton of weight by using lightweight materials and making it easy to service.

i'm almost finished with underpans for the 968 - just a few changes to make
there are 2 problems with our cars: 1. the tunnel, and the fact that the exhaust runs through it 2. the rear panel is a big wind trap - the 951 had a pretty decent lower panel at the rear though |
