help me destroy the rice rocket kingdom forever
My friend showed me in import tuner magazine a letter someone wrote bashing rice rockets and saying he smokes them all on his sport bike. I want to write a similar email but saying that the 951S is the ultimate 4 cylinder sports car. I am going to pretend to own one. I want to know...
stock torque- HP is 247 I know stock 0-60 5.7? skid pad test .89? but with aftermarket tires? 1/4 mile slalom speed for the skid pad, 0-60 and specs of the like it would be better to know them with modern day aftermarket tires(cause 1989 tires aren't as good) I am going to argue that stock it is faster than 99% of all riceboy crap cars (and is the fastest out of the 4 cylinder ones) and I am going to go on to say that the upgradeability is insane- easily over 400 HP and it can take 400 HP better than a honda civic AND it was made 15 years ago (the 88 model) AND it even says porsche. Also if you spend 20k (get it for 12-13k which is even kinda high) you can easily surpass the performance of say a supra twin turbo which is unattainable stock in good shape for less than $ 20k. Any other good arguements? thanks Pat

My question is, why does it matter? I don't mean to flame you, but why go through the trouble of this? Let the rice boys do what they want and let them waste their money in pointless mods that they think will make their cars faster. Sending in that letter won't do anything, because anyone reading the magazine won't be effected by it.
Also, you should know the difference between a rice boy and a tuned car. Not all japanese cars are rice. Like the Supra you mentioned. Most people here agree that a Supra is a great car. It's just a different car than a 951. I agree with your statement for the most part, I just think you're wasting your time. And another thing, even though the 951 is only 10-12k, it is still a 15 year old car, and with any used car that old you have to go through the trouble of finding a good one and dealing with everything that comes with buying an old car. |

Please - I beseech you......don't rave about the 944/951/968 to Ricers!!!
These guys have thier own lil' "community" and I'm sure they are slowly finding out how pathetic it is. They don't need to be told again. They especially don't need to be told there is a much faster, sleeker, better-handling, higher "brand-name" car out there that they could perhaps bastardize at a price that is not outlandish. We, as 924/944/951/968 owners, have figured this out on our own and have taken advantage of a great opportunity. I have always wondered why more people don't know about our lil' "secret". Anyone who is looking at buying a "sportscar" SHOULD be getting one of these cars.....no doubt about it. I guess the "high maintanance costs" scares a lot of people off, but in realty, this whole "high maintanance" theory has been laid out by........get ready for this........US!!! We all know it's not THAT expensive to keep these cars. Hell, any car that blows an engine will cost around $2000 to fix - it's a wee bit more to repair a Porsche - but not as much as everyone seems to think. I don't tell ANYONE what I paid for my 944S, or even the year sometimes. I've had people tell me they thought it was a new car and cost around $50-60,000. These cars are enigmas and it has to stay that way. If everyone knew what these cars drive like and have to offer - they would skyrocket in price and become unobtainable OR every Joe Schmoe who "likes to go fast" (i.e. Ricers) would have one. Tell ya what - you can hype the 951 (because it should be hyped), but tell them that the maintanance is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!! Tell them that they are "not cheap" to buy and tell them that there are only a select few with low miles that are even worth buying (somewhat true as it is) - make them look very rare and unobtainable. If the "secret" leaks - we will know where to look (lol) - so if the word gets out, watch your back - there may be a angry 951 in the rearview mirror - AND YOU CAN'T OUTRUN HIM!!!!!! |

I agree with 944S Boyeee. I like being a part of the precious few 944 owners out there. I think if everyone started buying 944s cause they read about them in a major magazine, then the cars would lose quite a bit of its exclusivity and appeal. It would attract a flock of buyers that assume the car is good just because that is what they read in a magazine. Sadly, a lot of these people probably would not appreciate the car as much if that was their sole rationale for buying it. The Porsche name also has a certain cachet to it that would be ruined if all the ricers suddenly decided that Porsches are the next big thing. Just my .02

I have had my car for a year so I'm no expert but I'm not sure I would agree with you that "it's not THAT expensive to keep these cars" however I would say they are worth it.

Oh - it is quite expensive to keep these cars - but it's not like you have to be a Millionaire or anything, that was my point.
......but if anyone asks, a new engine is $10000 (which it is from Porsche) and spark plug wires are $100 each (some actually are!!). Deter, deter, deter anyone from ever buying such a costly, poor handling, bug-infested, slow, highly rust capable car (ya right). We better just shut-up now - we may be giving the ricers TO much information here. There should be a block on this forum that can read the fingers of those trying to sign in. If there is any "sticker residue" on their fingers, they shouldn't be allowed to register!!! ...or a camera that can see who is signing in and will boot them out if they have a baseball hat on backwards (or slightly to the side - giving that much desired "lobotomy" look) or a huge gold chain dangling in front of their baby blue, shiney Basketball jersey or if they weigh 110 pounds and are only 5 foot 6. We need a filter here Pelican. A rice filter. |

Everyone's talking about the expenses: well, my car's in the shop this week (120,000 mile service + other upgrades/maintenance items). Total cost for me will be $2500.00! And the previous owner really took care of this car! I think if you let the rice boys know how much maintenance is on the 951 and 944S/S2, they'd laugh in your face! Remember: these guys are into buying CHEAP cars and modding them. Rice and German engineering don't mix! So please, don't send the letter: what are you trying to prove anyway? -Zoltan.

Just to add to my rant...These cars are hobbies and one must keep a close hover them to make sure they make it to the next decade.....I for one am not gonmna discourage you and Im sure no one has any hard feelings what so ever but we are I guess..concerned that we like almost every other make and model will be infultrated by litlle weenies who will attempt to bolt on tiny eclipse turbos and put akimoto(actually a decent company..but nevertheless) stickers all over our already beautiful style and will give the 944 series the "homie" look... So send in this letter praising the 951 and just say maybe we sholud not ovber look oler cars that have more or as much HP as many newer cars.....I salute you for your desire to fix the bent minds of the many..but as it has been dsaid before.."The masses are asses"-J. Locke....I say let them be asses....and further more....(yeah Im starting to bore myself here..) I think integras are great cars that do have the potential to be great cars...(theyre great on the track.SCCA and gt racing) ...so enough of this...good luck on the route you choose to take and yoiu have my support either way...best regards-Chris I have exceeded my 2 post average a day....shet
