LET THE HATING BEGIN. New Toy
I bought this. Looking to do some updating / mods. The rims are going to be replaced by a set of 18's. Clear front corners and side markers. Red out the tail lights.
Ideas? (be nice )

If their cars are like their airplanes, it will sit in your garage waiting for parts that you can't afford.

Nice! I know absolutely nothing about Saabs, but some girl living near my college campus has one just like it. I love the styling, it's unlike anything I've ever seen on the road before.

My 9-3 kept cooking oil due to a known design flaw. They mounted the turbo right next to he oil pan. Properly maintained and spun bearings at 86k.

My former neighbor had one - actually fairly reliable with the exception of needing a new wiring harness which apparently is not an uncommon failure and which is IMPOSSIBLE to source (he tried for months). Eventually he had a guy custom-fab one to the tune of a couple thousand bucks - plus installation. But aside from that it was a good car.

This is a true Saab, before GM distroyed the brand and turned it into an Opel. I like this car.
No one has come up to me to give compliments. It doesnt turn heads.(YET) This is a big problem for the attention whore in me. When Im used to someone always complimenting me on the 944. It's hard for me not to compare it to my 944. I will be back in another 944 someday soon. I was going to part it out on here but apparentley the moderators dont want you to list or sell your new in box shocks & timing parts when you part out your car. Though Its been done here before. Thats another issue. Spoke like a true Porsche snob. I still own my 944 so I sure I can post here even if its a little ...okay alot off topic.

Now, now. . .Kev's among friends, just asking for opinions on his new car, take it easy!

I lol'd!
Didn't your mama teach you 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'? Your father should have taught you 'opinions are like armpits, everyone's got 'em and they all stink'. That said, your post did actually have something worthwhile in it. Now I'm wondering myself... is it fast Kev? I had an RA in school that had an older Saab turbo cab. Fun little car, but it lacked the character of the 944.

is it fast? after it hits 35mph, when it hits 35 mph. it has the get up and go. Off the line power sucks. Paint dries faster than it takes to get to 35mph.
It's not a Porsche. Is it faster than the 944 na? yes. The 944 na is faster off the line. Is it faster than a 944 turbo? no. I feel like im riding in a truck. The seats sit up high. I think I can make this look fairly sporty and attractive with a few mods. Those damn rims have to go. I hope to tweak the engine and get some more power out of it. Ill keep you posted. |

It looks like it has the same rear deck spoiler at the 944 and functional rear seats. Lots of glass.

My sister had one, it was a good safe car, but spent a lot of time in the shop. Wiring problems, alternator problems, ignition problems, ignition LOCK problems, and the list went on. Zero to 35 in 3.5 days, almost as bad as an old Mercedes 300D.

I had an 83 (I think) 900 Turbo when I was much younger. Cranked up the spring on the waste gate and blew head gaskets at an alarming rate. Upside is that you could change the head gasket in a couple of hours.
I liked the car. Heavy, good road manners, comfortable and roomy.

I had an 86. Very solid car. The worst I could say about it was that's it's hard to get to stuff on the "front" of the engine because it's so close to the firewall. I always dreaded changing a water pump on it but never had to.
We still have a 97 now with the same 2.3L motor and it's pretty good still at 155,000 alaska miles. Was the wifes car but now it's just for the kids to drive.

im not much of a saab fan, however when i was younger my friend has a mid 12 second one- never looked to much into it- not because i wasnt intrested just never got to hang out with him other than friday night sonic meets- it was a pretty cool car- had a crack in the bumper stabled up with about 50 ind staples- we all called it frankonsaab-
hope the car serves you well- i think new wheels will really help set the car off |
