Good color change for 951

Have a red 1986 951 that needs a respray. Thinking of recent Porsche seal gray. Anyone have pics of a 944 in this color. Any suggestions? Want the color to be inconspicuous.

There were several "grays" used during the time.. but can't be sure how close to "seal" gray they are. The 944 in my avatar is "slate gray metallic". Can't imagine Seal gray would be too different... certainly it would remain inconspicuous. imho, most dark color (blue, gray, black, brown etc) are pretty much "below the radar".

I like the satin black metallic. It was a factory 951 color.

Oups, just re read your original post got it it's red.Hope you got an idea of what is involve changing color from (Red to Seal Grey),which mean striping everything in order to do a decent job.If you DIY I'll say go for it, but if a body shop has to do all the prep & the respray it migth cost you a bundle.
Seal Grey:

My '07 Cayman S had the Meteor gray metallic and it was a stunner. IMO, though, respraying another color without doing the whole car is as bad as putting speed decals on a Yugo. Although, with $4000 cars, unless you're a purist like me, I guess it's ok.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

do you plan on coloring the engine bay? It would look kinda half assed if it was just the outside

Thats my hesitation on the color change. Everything else is doable, but the engine bay is tough. I think you all have convinced me to stick to the red. How about graphics -the vinyl makers are genius these days - something to break up all the red?

It all comes down to financial and time constraints... If you are going to have $20k into the car when you are 'done', then make it a color or paint scheme you like....

Lol why not have the best of both world ,can you imagine yourself tearing down the street with your 951 in that color scheme (of course without the # & decals).

Think long and hard if you think you might ever sell this car. I will not buy a color changed car, and I'd bet there are others that feel the same way.

I'm not too much of a color-change advocate myself. My thinking is that if you like a certain color, then buy a car that already IS that color. If it needs a re-paint, then re-paint it IN that color.

EDIT: The message that am trying to convey (I'm thinking maybe we can even call it the moral) is: Never allow the thought of "Oh, I'll just have it re-painted into a color that I DO like" lull you into buying a a car (especially one that is of the breed in question) that is of a color that you do not like.

Hmm, I don't see the red specs in the close-up of the meteor gray cayman that are visible in a close-up of my STONE gray metallic 89 951. But you don't see them at more than like a foot away. I'll take/post a closeup for comparison tomorrow, if I remember.

I wouldn't care if a car has been repainted or not, or if the engine compartment is a different color. I could be the only one, who knows. I need to get my car painted badly. It has paint cancer, mostly on the sunroof, but no where else on the roof.(wierd) I want to change the color to come sort of gray, but it is close to the existing color already.
