My son and I rebuilt the ball joints on his 86 951. We used the Rennbay kit with bronze bushings. Porsche 944 Solid Bushing Ball Joint Rebuild Kit

We'd had the old kit with delrin bushings installed a couple years ago, and the delrin bushings failed miserably - which I suppose is the reason no one offers that kit any more. On both sides, the bushings deformed and basically got spit out of the pockets.

Hopefully, the new bronze bushings will last.

Took it for a spin around the block today with open headers. I don't think I'll do that again...

My front right wheel has -2.2 degrees negative camber or so....... and that's as close to 0 as it will go.

did my first and very messy oil change on my 87 944 NA

put in 20w50 VR1 racing oil and a new oc 142 filter.

noticed an improvement in how she sounds right away. other oil was way too thin and surprisingly dirty.

i see now why the gurus say to put in 20w50.

changed a turn signal bulb. Why is this noteworthy? Original bulb from '86

Took her for a long drive, coming back I was going a little over the speed limit which is 90 klms PH on that stretch of road, seen him at the last minutes (ghost car).Anyway after shooting the sh"%*t with him for a while he decided against a ticket but did give me a verbal warning, apparently I was doing 115 -25 klms PH over the speed limit. Consider myself lucky on this one.

Saturday spent 3/4 of day installing and adjusting clutch several times. Today. Pulled engine for the first time on a 911. Flywheel is needing surfacing or replacement, clutch disc is toast. Got new cable, helper springs at trans and pedals installed again. Now cleaning and detailing engine bay. Also busted oil cooler now looking for a used one or have it repaird. That was not in the budget. My boys are glad the car is back. after selling two years ago.

Spent around $432 on paint today (with military discount) still trying to get my rear tires aligned correctly... toe and camber haven't been set 100% correct, local shop doesn't know what they're doing of course. Automotion valence came in the mail wrapped in a cardboard armor suit. Rebuilt caliper cores arrived as well... going tomorrow to hopefully get a decent passenger fender and side marker from Pick n Pull... stainless steel brake hose are almost here as well. Oh, and my turn signal column selector doesn't want to move all the way up anymore... so much fun to be had.

I drove around the neighborhood with open headers again to make a video by request of someone. I don't have a mount so I just sat my phone on the passenger seat. I think it sounds pretty good with no exhaust. It's just loud as ****. The car seems down on power, but I am using the stock chip, AFM, no 02 sensor, and not having any exhaust pipe may be a contributing factor too.

I also rebled my brakes/clutch and got out that last bit of air that was trapped in there. They feel much better now. I'm thinking about just risking it and driving to the shop to have my exhaust welded up. It's only 5 or 6 miles...

Drove the Turbo "S" to Sebring for Zone Fest.

Finally took some more pix of the LS1 powered 944.

byrun, That is quite the machine you got there!

P.S. Keep tabs on the MSD unit/s.. I've had two of them go bonkers jump off a cliff.. It's either drilling vent holes in the cap to prevent ionization/plasma cross arcing or adding extended/insulated connectors between the coil input terminals and output primary and adding diodes into the alternator/battery warnign light circuit to keep the msd unit from sucking voltage from the charge warning lamp and staying alive after you turn the key off. P.S. nice work on that machine.. drool

re what did you do to your car today

may want to wrap your exhaust a few inches fore and aft the back left inner cv joint.. had to change cv boots a couple times too soon cause of exhaust pipe temps cooking the rubber, either that or get some universal silicone/high temp cv boots....

P.S. this is what I did to my car today... Fresh paint

Was experiencing a weird sound from inside the belt covers....a metallic pinging when cold. Appears to have been a slack(ish) cambelt that was slapping the water pump guide. I had fitted the belts a couple of years ago and apart from regular start-ups the engine had done no miles really, but I guess the belt stretched a bit.

So, read the forum and followed some advice about re-tensioning (I have the spring tensioner) and that seems to have cured it. However, the belt might be a bit too tight now as cant quite get the 90 degrees twist. Anyway, it will be cold tomorrow, so will check again....don't want to damage the WP bearing .

Also discovered a leak in the radiator , so more work and possible expense coming my way - it is just as well I love my car!

Love the Fuch wheels in the previous post

I just pulled out my DME and checked if it had been tampered with before by the previous owner, and found that the tabs were all good with no scratches at all, and the original chip still in place. I went inside and ordered an FR Wilks race chip but with the stock 6500 rpm red line limiter (no reason to go higher to the optional 7000 rpm limiter) for $133 shipped.

I also will be getting a right side engine carrier motor mount as mine is broken.
