Don't get hung up on mileage - it doesn't really matter.
Drive your car as often as you can. Fresh tires are most definitely NOT overrated. Check your fuel lines and even so, avoid using ethanolized gas if you have any say in it lest it cause fuel line degredation (ask me how I know!) Yes, you can turbo an n/a. Ask me how I know. Yes, you can spend over $12,000 on a $3,000 car (ask me how I know, see previous point) No, it won't out-drag-race a C6. Yes, it just might out-corner a C6. No, it won't get you attention from hot, bodacious blondes. Yes, it will get you attention from balding, middle-aged male car dorks. No, it won't get you any "cred" at the local P-car dealership. YES, IT'S A REAL PORSCHE I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS!!! (a few off the top of my head). Lordy this thread is old.

As I drive through a covered bridge, or near any kind of wall, guard rail, or even parked cars - I will often lower my windows to listen to the reflected sound(s) of my 85.5. This is a great way to listen for early brake noises, lifter noises, plus anything else that might be scraping, tapping, popping, which should otherwise be quiet...while actually driving the car.

putting 17 x 7.5 inch wheels on a 924S will sap all the power and make it handle like crap. It may look 'gangsta' but it'll handle better with 15 x 6s on.
be aware of the full range of tricks for removing stuck bolts and screws. The one I use the most is careful hacksawing the nut off. ATF mixed with a bit of nail polish remover seems to work well at unseizing bolts (no scientific test but seemed to work a few times). if you have the chance and the space, but a parts car and take every single part off it - a lot of it's worthless and won't sell but it'll teach you a lot about how it all fits together and removes the fear from working on your own car (you've already broken the part so know how to do it 'for real'). Don't top off your fuel tank past the first click of the pump, otherwise you'll smell the fuel until it drops (and your GF, Wife, SO will bust your balls about the fumes)

![]() 1. By reading this you are now knee deep in poop. 2. If you replace the VR, you need to "dress" or smooth out the brass slip ring inside the alternator. If you do not, the slip ring will chew up the carbon contacts of the VR. Also the new VR may not work properly. 3. Adding to what JR aka Jackson said, get a copy of the 924S/944 parts interchange list. 4. If no one has replied to your call for help or post, you can use the "Search" key. 5. The fuel tank has a fuel strainer that keep chunks of dirt & sludge out of your expensive fuel pump 6. Do you notice the coolant reservoir goes down a little every couple of months? Get a coolant pressure tester to check for pin leaks-----or replace your head gasket. 7. When you sell the car, list all the mods you added and the maintenance done---then change your telephone number and move. The green/new owner will stalk you. 8. Members with join dates before 2000 are the "cool" senior members. The era of the Pelican BB bulletin board. 9. If you buy a very low mileage car, it may cost you more in repairs. The cars need to be driven as mentioned. The seals. gaskets, shocks, belts, rollers, and a ton of other stuff will need to be replaced. Buy from someone who has already put $10K in the car and you can buy it for $5k. It may not have fresh paint or the interior smell of a new car but it will be cheaper. 10. Will the 944s become collectables? ![]() Only by the pleasure it brings the owner. John

If your second gear synchro is crunchin' use Redline MT-90, and you'll have better shifting. If your first gear is crunchin' put it in third, but not all the way, and then go into First. If you're still crunchin try double clutching or bleeping the trottle while shifting through the gate. Usually Redline helps it out .

With your Porsche you can get three things. Good. Cheap. And fast. If you are lucky you will get one of those. On a rare chance you may get two. Never will you get all three.

Is there a way to get to this strainer without removing the tank from the car? I guess I'm kind of hoping for a way to clean out the strainer once your tank is below 1/8 full or something of the like...

It unscrews from the bottom where the hose attaches.
. Empty tank, The new strainer should come with a gasket from Pelican, but check by phone. Your '88 turbo should be on this list: Pelican Parts - Product Information: 928-201-081-04-OEM GL John
