Hi
I'm rebuilding the top end of my 924 2.0 N/A after a head gasket failure. As I am replacing all the hoses, water pump etc I thought it would be prudent to replace the radiator. But my Porsche don't stock radiators anymore, aftermarket units here in UK are £300 ($475!!!) I could get a recore for half that price but wondered if the 924 2.0 N/A shares the same radiator as another VW/Audi/Porsche?? Been searching here and other forums and uncovered nothing. Thanks. |

I don't believe so, but I'll let the more experienced chime in.
However, you can use a 944 or a 951 radiator (as the chassis are pretty much the same aside from some bracketry) and even the matching expansion tank if you'd prefer: 944: 924Board.org :: View topic - How to mount a 924S/944 rad + shroud in an early 924 951: 924Board.org :: View topic - Installing a 951 Radiator BTW, the stock single fan unit used on the 924's is really ineffective. If you keep the stock radiator, I would upgrade the fan unit to help keep the car cool and save your head gasket. A 924 Turbo radiator and radiator fan are a direct drop in.

Thanks Fiat22Turbo - your post has helped assure me that the radiator currently in my 924 2.0 N/A is indeed stock. I had just completed the following diagram - so am posting for benefit of others.
Keep posting people! Looks like I have to make up brackets to fit a 924S/944 radiator though and I'm not good at doing such things ...

I'll be cheaper and quicker just to take yours to a rad shop, have them clean and pressure-test it.
Stock rad and fan setup work just fine, as long as everything else (cooling fan switch and relay, etc) are in proper order. We're actually still running an old stock rad on our racecar...

Makes sure your radiator fan is in good shape. The bushings for the motor in mine just failed, causing the motor to over heat on our recent warm days.
I bought a universal 12" radiator fan from the local auto parts store and fitted it in place of the stock motor with just a little modification. I had to sand the out edge of the fan blade down (there was a lip that prevented it from fitting in the hole in the stock shroud) then I mounted the new motor to the old mount and drilled a couple of holes and ran some longer bolts and locking nuts. Wiring requires two 1/4" spade terminals. Of course, I can't now report how well it works as the car is down for paint at the moment and the warm weather is gone :/ but after feeling how much more air is moved with the new fan, I can't see where it wouldn't be better in the long run. Also, make sure your belly pan is in place, it really helps with the engine cooling at speed.
