Question Fuel Injector Rebuild

One of my winter project concerned cleaning my 25 year old fuel injectors on my 1988 924S. I ordered the rebuild kit from Pelican which consists of 3 O rings, a spacer and a plastic cap to protect the nozzle or tip. This is the kit that Pelican recommends for my car as well as many other Porsche parts suppliers.

Upon inspection, the cap in the kit is slightly taller and the spacer is a little wider than the original parts on the stock fuel injectors. When assembled, the result is the nozzle of the fuel injector sits slightly recessed in the cap. My concern is this could affect the spray. I can do a test, any other suggestions?

I send mine to Witchhunter - at $22 each, it's a deal: WitchHunter Performance - Injector Cleaning & Flow Testing Services

If the parts you got from Pelican aren't exactly the same, I'd be suspicious.

I've also ordered the original Bosch seals before, and despite the fact that they should fit, they do not. The o-rings are correct, but the hats, and spacers are different. The injector seals one can get from rennbay are an exact fit.

this is one of those things better left to professionals. they check the flow pattern, and generally balance them to be equal. it's so cheap to get them done right, that it is just not worth the risk of a fuel fire or uneven running.

+a million on Witchunter money well spent. They were busy the last time I needed some cleaned, I went with a different group out of California, they were good as well. Can't remember where though.

In this case if I had a chance to do it all over again, it may have been a better choice just to spend the extra money and buy new injectors. I like to do most of the work myself, but you factor in the cost of the rebuild kit that doesn't fit and the testing time and cost, it may not be worth it.

You have to take the injectors out of the car either way.

I would take or send them to a place that has the proper equipment to flush out, rebuild, and flow test them. The power and health of your engine may depend on this. You don't want uneven fuel causing uneven wear or poor power.

PS. Also change the fuel filter at the same time. By the same token, injectors have replaceable micro screen filters that build up sediment and should be replaced during the rebuild. There are also several o-rings to replace.

Thanks you for the help, I will send my injectors to Witch Hunter Performance and that kit offered by Renbay is the correct one for my injectors.

Considering I have the Rennbay injector reseal kit on my dresser, that's good news.

The injector reseal kit only will stop or prevent future leaks from the injectors. Thats a good thing, but if you want the injectors "rebuilt" you should send them off to witchhunter or someone similar. You can DIY them, but it involves a lot more than a few o rings and new caps. my 2 cents.....

I haven't sent mine out yet, but it's about #3 on my list of things to do. I wouldn't even buy the caps and o ring kit, save your money and send them out to have them "rebuilt."

Only reason I haven't sent them out for a rebuild is 1. They are working quite well and my mileage and power all seem nice. 2. The downtime would be quite straining since I don't own a second vehicle personally
