Looking for ECU
Bought a 1985.5 944 NA with an automatic transmission. PO somehow pulled a fast one on this idiot and I ended up without an ECU in the car. Has a blown head gasket, so I only paid $650 for the car. Still not a bad deal considering the condition.
Anybody have an ECU with part number 944.618.121.04 that they would like to part with? The car has the following numbers on the engine block. M44/08 43F20706 I think that ECU will fit that engine?

Thought I would share a pic of the car. I guess PO bought it non-running and the previous owner to him had hooked up the O2 sensor & heater backwards and burned up the ECU. So the PO found one and got it running. Then the head gasket let go. So, disgusted, he sold it to me and must have made a few bucks on the ECU. I wasn't used to the location of the 85.5 and on location of the ECU in the passenger floorboard! Only early series cars previous to this one.

Personally, I would find one in a salvage yard and use it as a core in exchange with ECU Doctor down in Ft. Lauderdale. You'd have an effectively new one for about $400 and not regret any dependability issues. I've never liked just getting a used one because it's not like you can tell if it's any good when you buy one on Evilbay or Craigslist. I guess it comes down to if you're planning on keeping the car for long or not. Used ECU are kinda like used condoms, better to at least know that it'll work when ya need it to.

Hi POPS,
The DME in the ebay add you posted ----I think is mislabeled. From ebay listing---"Moronic ecu 0261200075 for a 1985.5 Porsche 944 never used" I found: The ECU is used for the 85-88 951 aka TURBO I have no reference that it may work in a NA. My source is the Bosch Automotive on line catalog--Fuel/Air Control Unit 08-1985 to 07-1988 turbo 951: Bosch Automotive Aftermarket - Products Or search from the beginning on Bosch: Bosch Automotive Aftermarket - Products If you bid-----check with the lister or do another search. I am being told that part: 944.168.121.02 is the same as 944.168.121.04. The ".04" is the part that matches my engine number in the Porsche parts breakdown, and I can't even find the ".02" in there. Any input that you guys have that can help is much appreciated!

The DME 944.168.121.02----The .02 is a slight modification to the DME that improves the performance. In 1987 another slight modification became 944.168.121.04
![]() The modifications usually were a new EPROM-computer chip. www.Motronic.ws** ©2007** ©2011 FR Wilk Chart--look at the Porsche 944 part, the 0261200077 ECU used 3 different chips: www.thePro2DMEeditor.com - Porsche only ECU List What does this mean?? The base, late, 944/2 Porsche 2.5 engine built from '85 to end of production 07-1987 used 3 different chips in the 0261200077 ECU. So "usually" if you use the 0261200077 ECU and the Porsche number is 944.618.121.02 or.03 or.04 -----the DME should work in any late 944/924S 2.5L engine ---NOT the '88---has a higher compression engine. Disclaimer----there was a reason for the change to improve normal engine operation and performance. Read=repair a fault. I would keep on looking for the ......04 DME. Post a WTB in the Pelican classifieds: Porsche 924/944/968 Used Parts For Sale & Wanted - Pelican Parts Technical BBS But if you find the ..........02 for a decent price, get it for a spare. Should be under $100 incl s/h. If another member can verify the information, because I have not tried an ....02 DME in my '87 924S. GL J_AZ
